Hotel In Chaweng - What Is Good For A Few Days ?

Featured Replies

It has been some time since I went to Samui so I thought I'd pop down for a few days but I am well out of touch with hotels and I was hoping a few of the locals here could give me a pointer or two.

Noting too flash but not dirty and crap either. I live in Pattaya and Buriram so I'm not used to getting ripped off as the big dumb farang tourist if you know what I mean :o

Cheers for hep in advance.

I could not find it on a quick google search. Can you please give me some contact details.

Cheers

The restaurant is called Chaweng Khaosan. The LEK hotel is probably down the soi/alleyway opposite.

Since you didn't mention your budget and requirements, it's makes it more difficult to suggest a recommendation.

Beachfront or a back alley? Air con or fan or both? Swimming pool......?

Not sure about budget. My previous experiences of Samui have been from Bt500 to $250 per day but the last couple of times I thought some of the accommodation was really poor value round the Bt2500 range so I will stick to less than Bt2000. Don't mind if it is Bt1000 or whatever but just value for money, not just ripping off the gullible western tourist who thinks Bt5000 is a bargain because he knows no better.

Aircon a must, don't want a hut - done that loads of times and usually crap or expensive. Pool is ok but not absolutely necessary. Not worried about food or restaurants but happy to have edible food on site. Don't want to be out of the way but a few minutes walk (not 20) to the beach and some nightlife is fine. Don't get on with the robbing bastard "taxis" aka small songthaews on Samui so won't be giving them any of my baht.

Just don't know and looking on the net is often misleading - I know, I advertise stuff on the net !

i just got back from Samui and i can only recommend you NOT book in advance. i was able to haggle 2 different places down and get room upgrades at the same time. the wife and i were looking for something nice and on the beach, but weren't interested in paying extra just to get a room that has a beach view. we never spend any time in the room other than to sleep the night away.

we wound up at Iyara after trying a few places. wound up *with* a beach view and paid B3500 (with breakfast). i know that's more than you were looking to spend, but just wanted to give my 2 cents that it's definitely not worth pre-booking. the place was absolutely vacant. the beach, the restaurants, everything.

and we had a dam_n good time. i can't say enough good things about the staff at Iyara and they do have rooms in the B2000 range and that should include a great breakfast.
