I wonder if what we has been discussed about Thaksin this and he being a criminal etc.etc. is only some sort of a cliche... of people who are living in an illusionary dumb sheep kind of follow the leader with the biggest mouth..isn't there anyone here on the forum who has the GUTS to be pro-Thaksin??? I don't understand much about politics...what I do understand is that Thailand after he is ousted has been exposed of not able to handle democracy....The PAD has destroyed more than Thaksin with his " corruption" or criminal activities....foreign investments under Thaksin was more stable...now forget it....I wouldn't want to invest anything into Thailand...No one now will be able to run Thailand with a strong fist...which the Thais need...a strong leader....corrupt or not....so long the majority of Thailand propers isn't that more important??? The poor was benefitting so much, more stability, educational reform, fight against corruption, crime, drugs....all a major push towards a better Thailand...Now it is all going down the hole...just because a small minority rich big mouths are envious of Thaksins successes.....think of this for a minute...hope more people on this forum has the GUTS to also respond.....

Read that as 2 years in prison with 3 years off for good behavior (he told a friend he was jumping bail).

To make the deal even sweeter, drop the charges on his wife so she will be able to return to Thailand and take of his business empire.

There have been several posts here suggesting that Thaksins wife could return now the arrest warrant on the Land Case has been lifted due to her not guilty verdict. My understanding is she still has the seperate conviction and 2 years jail sentence from the Shin Corp tax evasion case.

Well pojamas was the one that bought it. And she wasn't guilty. So I guess she gets to keep it. The FIDF should be the guilty ones for selling so cheap.

With the current economic crisis, the property is over price now. No thanks, FIDF don't want it back. Pojamas can keep it, and book the loss.

Oh I forgot. With all her asset frozen, she have no where to book the loss to offset tax.

13,200 sq wah @ 58,000 baht per? The FIDF could have easily held out for more money.

Right...and 2500 dead in his war on drugs, the murder/suffocation of Thai-Muslims in the south. He knows how to handle democracy. You can Google and find such websites as Hi-Thaksin or PPP Fanclub. Maybe you can write your love for Thaksin there.

I think you'll find there are quite a number of people on these forums who liked the populist and even some of the economic polices of Thaksin - he was more of a slightly free mareteer/slightly pro-globalisation so many westerners like that. However, I think you'll also find that even many of those did not like his abhorent human rights record so they may offer a more tempered endorsement of him or even see him as a potentially great leader who screwed it all up.

The trial is a fair as it could get. Pojamas was found not guilty and 2 years is a brisk compared to 10 years.

pojamas would have had more respect if she just stayed in bkk on bail and went to the verdict. She would have just walked away from the courthouse no questions asked.

Walked away under escort as a serving criminal doing a 3 year stretch for tax evasion :o

With premission from SJ i post as a reminder for those who are not familiar with the case against her and her brother, not forgetting the personal secretary of course.

Potjaman Shinawatra Guilty

10.47am : The Criminal Court on Thursday found Khunying Pojaman Shinawatra guilty of intentionally avoiding a tax payment of Bt546 million for the transfer of 4.5 million shares of the Shinawatra Computer and Communications' shares worth Bt738 million. Also found guilty in the historic trial are Pojaman's brother Bannaphot Damapong and her personal secretary Kanchana Honghern. The court sentenced Pojaman and Bannaphot each to 3 years in jail.

Chaos and anarchy are now the only way out for these unscrupulous bastards who along with him, will try to enforce their influence to change what has happened , along with the present LEGALLY implemented constitution.

It will contrary to belief also re enforce his requests for p. asylum in that it is to dangerous for him and his infamous family.

Both the parents are now convicted criminals, according to law and fairly judged by the elected supreme court, on evidence put before them.

Thaksin guilty in land case, gets 2-year imprisonment

Thaksin Shinawatra sentenced to two years in jail

BANGKOK: -- The Supreme Court Tuesday found former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra guilty in the Ratchada land case.

He was sentenced to 2 years in jail.

Pojaman Shinawatra, his wife, was found not guilty and the court revoked arrest warrant against her.

The court found that Thaksin had violated Article 100 and Article 102 of the National Counter Corruption Act, which states that government officials, including prime ministers, and their spouses are prohibited from entering into or having interests in contracts with state agencies under their supervision.

He nearly escaped again. It was 5:4.

The only surprise is that PAD must be very worried. If you get convicted with a 5 to 4 margin, it means that the highest people in this country were not be able to intimidate 4 very import judges. Given the fact that the plot of land is not seized that he was not convicted for misuse of power, there is hope that he will be able to keep a substantial part of his money. And with money dear people he would be able to retake what is rightfully his. Power.

With both Thaksin and Pojaman now being convicted criminals, I wonder if both did get extradited back and imprisoned if they would allow conjugal visits between them?

I got told in a Thai jail with enough money, you have rooms, office own chef, fax internet, phone etc etc etc....

Just a question of money.

And the jail-bird can order Pizza delivery like Chalerm's son when he was in prison few yrs back. :o

Yes, you are correct. She has already been sentenced and convicted for asset concealment and has skipped bail. This was a seperate case.

The sad thing is that these two despicable CRIMINALS are allowed to reside in the UK. :o

Maybe we should send all our criminals to the UK. Instead of arresting them. We should ask would you like to move to UK or stay in jail in Thailand? If Thaksin isn't a criminal to UK standards I don't know who would be.

I suspect there will be more court issues over them keeping the land.

Nothing has been said for the LOGIC of letting them keep the land.

Maybe SHE bought the land, but he broke the law,

so SHE gets to keep it.. Bizarre for sure.

The land was cheap but wasn't too cheap.

Opening bid was 2 billion but the second highest bid was 8xx million. Pojama requested a discount of about 100 million because her hubby was the PM.

Who know she probably paid in cash. Not like the rest of us that need mortgages and bank support. I'm still making payments on my plasma.

There was a time a long long time ago where I used to think of him as an idol.

There was also a time where I though he was the best PM candidate Thailand could have at the time.

However power and money tends to corrupt people.

Toxin got a light sentence. China might have given him death sentence. Does he get to keep the land? Two years for stealing 700 million baht from Thailand. That's 40,000 a minute and almost one million baht a day. I would volunteer to serve it for him for 700 million baht.
