Some friends of mine are planning to come to Samui and participate in massage couse, any good ones out there or any out there at all?

The WatPo temple massage School in Bangkok is the most famous.

Never heard of any school on Samui as yet.

Second that.

If serious, this is the place to go.

From what I have heared, if your friend plans to use the certificate for future work abroad the Wat Po school-certificate is the most wellknown and serious one. It would be more valuble as a certificate abroad.

Fully agree, but they rather stay in Samui than in BKK.

Well, there is plenty, one I know of aks 50.000 and a hands NO -Name certificate anyone can buy in Kao San Road - get what I mean?

If not Bangkok, there are accredited schools in CMX...there used to be one in Surat..you don't want some boo, boo, baba, I did itmyself Guru Certificate if so...

Well Samuian,

I see your point but at the end of the day, that's up to them, is it?

Don't think that the average Westerner who's never been in Thaialnd knows the difference between Wat Pho and a Samuian certificate and in all earnest, I would almost assume that the courses are very similar.

Just outside of Lamai on the main road, before the bridge and much before the 90-degree turn at Wathanon, is a school. Look for the big sign.

Some of the women who ply the trade of massage here in Lamai, not the "happy ending" kind, say that Wat Po is extremely overrated and only has the status it does because it has been popularized by foreigners. They are rather adamant that Wat Po is not only not the best, but certainly not the standard by which other schools should be measured.

Anyway, that's not in Samui so has nothing to do with this thread.

Let me guess ... none of them traveled to BKK and paid for the classes at Wat Po.

The only issue I have with Wat Po massage is that so many people have forged the diploma.

I don't mean to be rude but I guess none of those women in Lamai have a Wat Po-certificate.

Up to your friends what they want to do with the certificate.

Of course there are other very good massage schools but unfortunatly none seems to be in Koh Samui.

hi Limbos

there is Wat Po with it big name (because everybody go there, see's there etc.) as mentioned already.

The real good school is in Chaing Mai the name is TMC, see also www.tmcschool.com they have some very good and illustrated books out (in any bookshop also in Samui)

Another good name is this one, where Thai's going a lot for education: "Thai Traditional Medical Services Society" BKK. You can see this Logo here at Ko Phangan at some places, so sure also in Samui.

That's the logo (little funny na?) I know here an teacher in Had Chaopao and he is really good!

Thanks for your feedback,

It's interesting to see the blind faith devoted to Wat Po. From my own experience, I can state that I had better massages outside of Wat Po than inside.

The name alone doesn't mean anything and as I expressed before, I doubt that people in the West are actuelly that aware of Wat Po.

Maybe it's time to start a Wat Po fan club or Facebook group, although I most certainly won't join. Don't believe the hype!

Matter of the fact is that my friends are happiest in Samui and wether they get a TMC cert from CM or a different cert from Samui is for them and their future clients in Europe no big issue.
