Visit To Thailand

Featured Replies

A friend and his wife will be visiting Thailand early next year and are planning on a visit to either Krabi or Phi Phi. They haven't decided which one yet and it looks like finding the right place to stay will be an important part of their decision. They want to stay at a decent place (USD 150-200 per night), but don't want a resort that is self contained as they want to eat in local restaurants.

They were looking at Railay Village Resort in Krabi, but then heard that Railay gets full of backpackers. Can anyone suggest a nice place that meets their needs in either Krabi or Phi Phi?

Thanks.

Hi Old Man River,

what's up with your Boyz (?), everybody seems to be getting banged up.

You say your friends don't want to be "self contained" and that is sort of what Railei is. I mean, you are kind of stuck there, it's nice if you are into the beach and rock climbing but from what you so far have described of your friends, I wouldn't push that. Same with Phi-Phi and Phi-Phi during the peak of high season(?) a bit of a zoo.

Have them look at Layana Resort Koh Lanta. The ferry crossing can be a bit of a mini-headache but once there, it's awesome. Also, outside of the resort are all kinds of restaurants, seafood places on the beach etc. Also from there, day trips to Koh Jum and other nearby islands.

That's my two satangs worth OP. GO RAIDERS !!! (Boy we suck!!)

On the Pokes, Tony is back after the Giants game (loss) so all is not lost yet.

Thanks for the heads up on Railai. On Koh Lanta, I would say my friends are in the mid to upper 40's in age and are probably not into scuba diving etc. From their email, it sounds like they want a laid back resort that is in a place where they can lay on the beach, hit town, shop, eat and enjoy the culture. I will tell them to check on Koh Lanta, but welcome anyone else's ideas.

Since they specifically said their interests were with either Krabi or Koh Phi Phi, I welcome anyone's insights into resorts in these areas in the USD 150-200/night range.

Layana definitely not a "Dive Resort".

Outstanding pool area that runs right up to the sand on what is a really nice beach.

Saladan Town is pretty cool, seafood restaurants built over the water that sway with the tide. Great food. Shopping. Afew other cool beaches to explore outside of the resort.

Otherwise, Centara Krabi, Golden sand resort Ao Nong, Phi-Phi Island Village, Holiday Inn Phi-Phi is in the little town there. I'm down that way pretty often, I still prefer Koh Lanta.

P.S. this is a sleepy forum so don't expect too much out of this crowd.

Cheers, HB
