Have just spent a fruitless 15 minutes on the phone to Dtac and subsequently Ais trying to establish what pre paid packages are available re Edge access to the Web.

Previously the English speaking staff have been switched on but not today (maybe its a saturday !!)

Somebody mentioned 50 hours a month for 250 baht on Ais previously ?

What do they just draw off 250 baht every 30 days ??

What other packages are available-have full strength Edge available here.

Thanks,

AIS, 250 Baht (+ VAT so works out to 268 Baht) for 50 hours.

They deduct every 30 days. It used to be that every month you started with 3000 minutes (50 hours) regardless of how many minutes you had left over from the previous month, but now they just add 3000 minutes to what was left over!

On AIS you can dial *138 and you'll get an automated system to order added value stuff such as MMS, gprs etc.

Go through the choices for English, GPRS, monthly packages, and then the system will run through the available packages. Choose the one you want and within a few minutes it's activated.

Dial *139# and you'll see how many minutes you have left.

It'll deduct the money automatically every 30 days, if insufficient credit it will notify you of this by sms, and when you put more credit on it'll immediately re-activate your package...

So Monty if like me and some months usage is virtually zero (on account of being out of Thailand for 25 days or whatever) then unused balance is carried forward, and 3000 minutes added on top, on anniversary of original start date ??

So you could effectively have 6000 or 9000 minutes etc etc assuming you had enough credit to start with ??

On another thread within this section a poster states that Dtac have a package of 250 hours for 500 baht ??

Seems very cheap-does anyone use this option ??

Too bad it's a monthly deduction then. I'd like just a backup for the infrequent outage of Maxnet. It should work like those temporary dialup accounts you can buy at 7/11: you know, 15-100 hours max, good for 6 months after activation.

I used the top of cards previously but only via our landline to access CS loxinfo when TOT was playing up.

Wasnt aware you could obtain them for sim card access via modem ??

No you can't!

Actually you can but it's very expensive and slow. Dialing into an ISP with your GSM phone as a modem is possible, but at a max. speed of 9.6 kbps, and you get billed 3 Baht/minute on your GSM bill (on top of the Csloxinfo or whatever ISP's top up card)!

As long as there is GPRS access the above is pointless as even without a GPRS package you'll only get billed 1 Baht/minute, and GPRS is a multitude faster then dial up over GSM...
