I am wanting to go to Koh Yao island off Phuket. From my internet search only some ritzy resorts found. Do any TV members have moderate price bungalow to recommend or any info about availability of bungalows. Thanks for your help.

Lots of really well priced bungalows can be found; take a tuk tuk or rent a motorbike and drive along the coast, really lost of places and there should be good availability right now. However, be aware that you might get what you pay for.

Thanks jts for that. I was pretty sure there would be more than just the two high end places I found on the internet....It seems the boat/ferry leaves 2-3 times per day from Phuket....so we can go take a looky and if nothing suits come back same day. Very slow here in Phuket so agree should be lots of choice and maybe bargaining position even now in peak season. Thanks again

The first ferry leaves 09:30, after that there is another one at 10:30 and 11:30. If there are more I do not know. Ferry is THb 150 pro person and the price is the same for Koh Yao Yai or Koh Yao Noi. A private speedboat can be chartered for THb 2,800 right there. Parking the car at the pier was THb 50 for the day.

Tuk Tuks on Koh Yao Noi have a price list and the drivers use them. If there are very little number of people coming over they were quite happy to give me a discount but I do not know if this happens frequently.

It might be advisable to collect one or two phone numbers of tuk tuk drivers so you might be picked up, as I was there on Koh Yao it was very easy to get away from the pier, but then I did not see tuk tuks driving empty around on the far-away beaches.

Ferries back are in the early afternoon, I think around 15:30, more than enough time to actually go to the beach overlooking Phang Nga, and walk to whole 10 kilometers back though the plantations and mangroves (quite a nice walk I might add). I saw kayaks for rent, bicycles for rent, etc., so lots to do to fill your time with sports if you are not into walking. The beaches were very coarse sand, some parts with lots of rocks, so they are not as nice as on Phuket from this end; I guess this makes for better snorkeling, but shoes you can wear in salt water might be a good item to have too.

Hey thanks again. Great info and adding the website to my favorites....can't wait to go, now more than ever sounds like my kind of place. Do you think they would mind if we brought our own bikes? not so much to save money...but often bikes I rent just don't fit...you know what I mean? Thanks again

Nobody will mind if you bring your own bike, it is a pretty laid-back place. Take note however that this is a local ferry, eg your bikes will be put somewhere with the other stuff on the roof. Getting in and out by stormy weather from a moving boat over a plank with a bike over your shoulder could become tricky.
