girlx
I am against any cencsor....but the next is people coming with some child abuse pages....have to agree that this must not be allowed, than some nazis promote killing jews....OK that must not be allowed......and at the end you are trapped to agree with cencsorship.... no- for instance you don't censor child pornography because you don't want people to read it, it is censored because in order to produce it a serious crime against children has to be committed. i think in most places people are free to discuss child pornography from a moralistic perspective etc., as long as they are not showing examples of it. lots of people in my country are against talking about sex, drugs, evolution etc. in the classroom, but there is no criminal behavior involved in the creation of the materials for these conversations. rather, people should be allowed to discuss the facts and then make their own decisions. it's simply education, and to deny that to someone is wrong. i for one think hate speech should be allowed (as for instance it is in some areas- neo-nazis, the 'god hates fags' guy etc.), but when it progresses to action against those they hate, that is a crime. perhaps those who commit hate speech should be put on watch lists, but it doesn't make sense to convict them of having an opinion, unless they follow up on that hate speech with some kind of abusive action. otherwise the target can just ignore their speeches. i am totally against censorship. i know the mods here have heard that from me a few times before , but i suppose we are not living in a country that cares too much about human rights here. i am vehemently opposed to the lese majeste laws too but as i have no rights here i have to live with it as long as i choose to stay here. in my own country, i definitely take a more proactive stance against this sort of thing. Gravelrash
Sondhi was sentanced to three years in jail and a 300,000 baht fine for LM crimes but it is seemingly o.k. because he is fighting the controlers fight. I have tried to find a news clipping that confirms this sentance has been overturned but have not been successful. You probably didn't find an article confirming his sentence was overturned because he was never sentenced to 3 years for LM in the first place. As for the Australian, perhaps the fact that the original and follow-up thread about him are both closed is an indication that it is not a suitable subject to pontificate about. Your views on such pontification reveal a rare depth of compassion. And if the Democrats are beginning to implement the PAD fascist new politics, how much longer will this forum survive if it discusses anything more contentious than where to find the best hamburger? I have always thought a Dem gov would would lead to more temporary harmony, all that ever bothered me was that it appeared they had shifted their position to the far right without fessing up to it and a whole lot of subtle little changes would start. Perhaps you don't remember the old Soviet and Chinese goverments. Hardly far right.
Danton
History has taught us that the floodgates of censorhip can only hold for so long. As far as this country is concerned, the levee is already bursting at the seams ,and once the inevitable occurs, it will break and there is nothing anybody can do about it. petedk
It's all very well censoring or blocking certain websites but what about all the emails that are circulating. Will they soon filter emails that contain ceratin words? At the moment I seem to be receiving emails on a daily basis from Thai colleagues with links to taboo subjects. Some from very serious and respected news magasines.
