Sudden Onset Of Google Chrome Crashing

Featured Replies

Browsing TV with Google Chrome (under Vista) I open threads in new tabs and then read the tabs in turn while the next page of new posts is loading.

Since a Vista update yesterday the following has been happening:

1 ) I click on a tab to read it and, even though the mouse is released the tab is picked up and moved when I try to move the mouse pointer away. It looks like the up-mouse is being ignored/missed.

2 ) I drop the tab back where it belongs (with a second left-click), the tab window blanks and then the whole of Chrome crashes.

Anyone else seen this?

I have been using Chrome with Vista for the past month and have yet to see this problem... You mention it started to occur with a Vista update that happened yesterday. I have yet to install any updates since Monday but I will do this soon and reply back...

However since I first began using Chrome there are two problems that I have. One being that when I open a new tab sometimes after I load the URL to where I want to go the new tab will just close for no apparent reason. This does not happen all the time. Maybe about 5% of the time when opening a new tab. The second problem happens all the time and that is I cannot add text to an email that I forward or create (I use Hotmail). Likewise on some online newspapers I view I cannot add text in the 'feedback/opinion' block of the news articles. (Perhaps they know who I am and don't like my 'smart-arse' comments' :D .....) But I do get around this by using MS Internet Explorer... :o

Chrome has some nice features, especially tab manipulation, but for some reason it won't open the BBC news Thai baht exchange page at:

http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/2/shared/fds/hi/...welve_month.stm

Comes back with:

Error 320 (net::ERR_INVALID_RESPONSE): Unknown error.

IE handles it fine.

I'll email the BBC when I get A Round Tuit :o

Hey Phaethon.... I just updated Vista and do not experince the problems you seem to be having.... Matter of fact I clicked on the BBC exchange page that you linked to and I also get it with no problems...

I am running Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 and all the latest updates...

Think I'll rip it out and reinstall... Back in a bit :o

You should not forget that Google Chrome is still in Beta stage!

Maybe you can also try to install in XP Compatibility Mode. For to do that, do the following:

1: Right Click on the Setup file

2: choose Properties

3: click Compatibility

4: check Run this program in compatibility mode for: (choose the version you like)

5: click Ok

6: run Setup (Install pp.)

I use that by a lot programs and even very old programs like Image Pals (from 1992) run well installed in Windows 2000 mode! And I use Vista Ultimate 64 Bit

Cheers.

Thanks R., but it was fine one day and not the next. I have noticed before however that it takes a few clicks sometimes to work a link. Methinks it has problems with mouse events. I can get around it by double clicking the new tab, but don't always remember.

Reinstalled and the same problems with picking up tabs still there, but it seemed more robust, i.e. it didn't crash - but then it just did :D

I might try the compatibility mode, but shouldn't have to, it should have been Vista proof by now.

Note to self - get on with migrating to Linux :o
