The Christmas Thread

I'm off to Blighty for three weeks to show my two little boys a "proper" Christmas.

Yippee!!

:o

Sounds like your kids were born in Thailand - hope it snows while you're there, give them a real treat.

My (Thai) missus was amazed the first time she saw snow.

Have a great holiday.

Looking forward to it. My missus (Thai) has been on at me to go for years, this year seemed as good a time as any. Been together for 10 years nearly and have never taken her "home", although my eldest boy (now 5y) has been before.

Shame on me, eh..??

Should be good fun though and I hope we get a bit of snow. Bring on the turkey!

On 24th, Christmas Eve, will be on the Lomprayah bus heading to Koh Phangan.

With a nice picnic hamper and a descent bottle of wine...

Hope by traveling that date that will have a lot of empty seats!?!

they won't, you will have to book in advance...

And so my post, which contains my opinion should be censored because it does not fit in with your beliefs?

Whatever my beliefs, I feel your comment falls under the "religious or racial slur" rule.

No, it is not a religious slur.

My comments are a criticism of a festival that I have no affinity to that has been imposed on me (all of us) whether we like it or not.

It is something that I find to be quite inconvenient and given the choice I would prefer that we are spared of it, but I can do nothing about that. Likewise with new year, it is just another day on the calendar.

Anyway, get back on topic, what are you doing for Christmas?

Beach bar/restaurant with friends

Hopefully not Beach Bar Humbug.

I am off to Hua Hin as usual, but not expecting as many Herring-scoffing Skandis this year.

What is wrong with Herring-scoffing Skandis ?

Off down to Pattaya with the missis(Thai wife) for a few days lazing on the beach as we do every year. Just relaxing and enjoying ourselves, and phoning different members of my family in the UK, and reminding them that it is Christmas Day and I am sat on the beach!! :o:D:D

I am off to Nigeria, back here for a few days, then to Cambodia, then back here on Dec 23. I will work on the 24th, but I am thinking of getting a turkey from Eurogourmet (my little kitchen isn't big enough to cook one myself), sit back with friends, and watch a couple of movies.

On the 26th, I will call back to the US to wish my family a Merry Christmas.

Having travelled widely sometimes at Christmas, won't be in Thailand this time (heading for pastures new) may I say to you residents of Thailand or visitors for Christmas Thailand is the place to be. With all it's ups and downs Thailand is still a magical place and Christmas is a magical time. Am trying to say, badly as usual, Christmas is very overrated and commercialised in some of your home countries so lucky you if you are going to be there at that time of year for, even with all it's trials there is a simplicity about Thailand (and also a retribution) of a kind which can remind you of the first Christmas.

You're right, there is a "simplicity about Thailand".

The wife and I will be putting on our traditional (for us) party on Christmas day for all the family and folks here in the village. Probably another roasted pig with sticky rice and other Issan food. Of course a few beers and Thai whiskey goes along with the food.

It's a great reason to have a party.

Bah Humbug.

"I really can't be arsed with all of this crap, sure it's great for kids but for me it is just a major pain in the arse and all because of something that happened to some bloke 2000 odd years ago."

It's not all bad though because my now traditional holiday to Koh Samet with friends and family is now booked. GET IN!!!!!!. I absolutely love going to the beach and being in Bangkok all year round makes it even more exciting. I may even get a little festive and have a turkey roast on the beach (depending on the severity of my hangover).

So what are the TV lot doing then?

Going to the beach such as myself? Somewhere nice inland? Staying home with friends/family? or just sat on cowboy/nana/walking street sucking on a bottle of chang?

Hopefully a moderator will delete your anti Christian post :o

I hope not, political correctness and liberal censorship are abhorrent. Although, I disagree with the tone and underlying meaning of the initial post, he should be allowed to say his piece and then get challenged verbally, not edited out. To paraphrase Voltaire "I disapprove of what globalj says, but I will defend to the death his right to say it"

Back on track, for me Xmas has always been a family thing, in the traditional sense. We celebrate Xmas eve more than actual Xmas day. On the other hand New Year's Eve is done with friends. This time though I'll spend it flying over the skies to Thailand, something I've never done before. I'm actually looking forward to it :D

Got the tree and decorations up already. We'll have a big party Christmas Eve, followed by a traditional Christmas lunch with a large group of family and friends.

We always make a big deal of Christmas as it's the one real occassion a year to expose the kids/Thai family members to a bit of my Western culture and I must say that they really seem to enjoy it.

I will daydream about skiing the freshly powered double diamonds of Crested Butte....... Ahhhhhhhhh even though I love living in Thailand nothing beats an old fashioned Christmas like those times in the beautiful Rocky Mountains.....
