He's a crooked politician who has a 5 year ban. His Father is Chai Chidchob, who is the House Speaker, and probably a proxy of his son.

But who really is Newin ?

He's a crooked politician who has a 5 year ban. His Father is Chai Chidchob, who is the House Speaker, and probably a proxy of his son.

He's the son of Chai Chidchop, a political associate of Loet Shinawatra, Thaksin's father. They and a few others formed a small group in the parliament until disbanded by Thanom's coup in 1971. Other ex-TRT ministers whose father was in the same group are Sudarat Keyuraphan and Chaturon Chaisaeng.

These loyalties go back a long way (and bring rich rewards).

The Thai democrats don't have the numbers to form a government without forming coalitions with unsavory factions. Thats just the way it is. I don't know if they will succeed in doing so, but that is their only chance. Just politics.

I am fine with the horse trading, it is their role in the recent crisis which so annoyed me. I really expected more of them. But then this has been an eye opener on many levels.

Of course, he had no idea what it was for ... :-)
