Cycling In Thailand ? (12/12/2008 - 02/01/2009)

Hi,

I will be cycling in Thailand for a bit less than 3 weeks from 12/12/2008 to 02/01/2009.

I am looking for a scenic cycling itinerary but I've ruled out commercial cycling tours, . (I'd love to join a group of cyclists but this is going to be difficult because I am slow on my folding bike pulling a trailer).

I thouht of this : http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2427477

but then I don't know if I should go to the Andaman sea or stay by the gulf or Thailand.

What do you think of it ? Will it be easy to find places to sleep ?

Would it be better to take a bus from time to time to avoid some streches of roads ?

Thanks for your help.

Eric

Thailand is probably one of the easiest places for a bicycle tour. Cheap accommodations, good fresh food/fruits, and fairly decent roads. And most of all, the locals love to cheer cyclists and drivers will generally give cyclists wide berth.

It's all pretty scenic.

If you like mountains, Pai, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, and Loei. But checking out the field (and trash) burning season.

If you like rural rice fields, all of Issan along the Mekong.

If you like ocean, from Hua Hin all the way down to Surat Thani is sweet, then over to the Andaman side, and Phuket down to Sadao. Certainly do-able in 3 weeks with lots of breaks in between.

Or even better yet, you can do all three regions if you hop on the train to skip over the boring parts (better than taking buses). I've taken singles as well as a tandem on both train and buses without any problems other than a few scratches on the paint.

Google "crazy guy on a bike"

Lots of blogs and travel tips there for Thailand.

Have a great ride!

I'm heading for a ride in Malaysia myself :o
