Good evening,

My internet provider is IP-Star which I get via the offices of Loxinfo in Pattaya. For the past ten days I have been experiencing problems. At 9 am my connection is cut and does not get reconnected until 6 pm. Despite the fact that I am paying for a 24hrs connection.

Having had enough of this I went to their offices in the vain hope that a complaint would help to sort this problem out only to find that the office was closed for the whole day and as they do not open over the weekend (!)

Has anybody else out there had any similar problems or is it just me?

Many thanks.

I had iPSTAR (with CSLoxinfo) in the past and it happened quite frequently. As George said, if you can have CAT CDMA in your area, you won't miss the shitty iPSTAR solution. But in the meanwhile, you should be able to obtain a refund for the downtime time (a full day when the downtime exceeds 6 hours). Send an email explaining the situation to the billing division ([email protected]) and to their customer support ([email protected]).

You might want to try a much cheaper and better option, Cat-cdma:

http://www.catcdma.com

Unfortunately the OP is located in Pattaya, which is the CDMA stronghold of Hutch (along with most of Bangkok and the Eastern Seaboard).

Hutch only uses the CDMA 1X standard offering only 153 kbps max speed, and according to their own site you can expect between 60 and 100 kbps.

http://www.hutch.co.th/mbi/1x/mbi_prepay/promo_4400_en.htm

There are several members on this board unable to get ADSL, used iPSTAR before and then switched to GPRS/EDGE, either from AIS or Dtac. All of them consider GPRS/Edge to be an improvement over iPSTAR, and a whole lot cheaper!

On Edge you can expect anywhere between 80 and 220 kbps actual speed (depending on local mobile phone usage).

Both Dtac and AIS offer unlimited access for around 1000 Baht/month, if you use less, you can take for example 50 hours/month for 270 Baht (on AIS).

The OP is asking if anyone with IPStar is being cut off between 9am and 6 pm. But not one reply answering his question. Can't anyone read?

The answer to your question Wolf 359 is no I have no problems with my IPStar/Loxinfo connection between 9am and 6pm in Pattaya.

I suggest you call the technical service department of IPStar on 022637171 press the relevant keys for English and technical service and work with them on this and they will find a solution for you.

I wouldn't pay any bill to CS-L as long as the system isn't connected 24/7!

If you contact the Consumer Protection Office at NTC Bangkok and file a complaint, they will help you.

I had problems with CS-L 2 years ago about IP-Star and with help of the NTC I won the court case and CS-L had tyo pay back my money (before they was getting back their system!)

If you've any log files, that would help you a lot.

Cheers.

Hi,

I use this modem, you can order it from here Shop4Thai and they will deliver to anywhere in Thailand in a couple of days. All you do is go to any phone shop and ask for a one2call net sim, put it in the modem plug into the laptop and away you go, I use it here in the country and it isn't bad at all. I can upload pictures to thhe net and listen to internet BBC radio most of the time. It isn't high speed internet but it is useable and the best option at a good price.

I can't say 100% but mine comes up with a vodafone connection sign when it connects but in the options it searches for the phone signal automaticaly so I guess you could use it anywhere. Having said that, might be worth comparing the price of sending and insuring it to buying one here just to be safe, it isn't that expensive to buy here and you would be sure it works too.
