The Southern (East Coast) Meteorological Office yesterday warned local residents of more rain from December 15-18 and urged small boats to stay inshore due to high waves and strong winds.

Office director Wanchai Sakudomchai said the medium northeast monsoon covering the Gulf of Thailand and the South would become stronger and cause waves 2-3 metres high and strong winds in the gulf. This combined with the effect of a highpressure system in South China will cause increased rainfall from Surat Thani to Narathiwat, he said.

The heavy rains may be followed by floods.
