I am returning to Finland to do my first Non-imi. O-type (husband visa; obviously married with Thai woman).

I will be working in neighboring countries and therefore need multi-entry. Now the questions are

a) If I apply multi-entry, do they require a return ticket? I will be going out about 2 times a month, but then

might stay up to two months in Thailand going nowhere. My current ticket is BKK-HKI-BKK, so when I apply

I can only show one way ticket, but I have also BKK-Vientiane ticket valid for one year, but dated on 15th of

Jan 09 (can be changed). I also have one year ticket BKK-FRA-HKI valid for a year, but dated on 27th of DEC

08 (can be changed with fee to any date)

B) If I understood right the basic validity of this kind of visa is 90 days? This means I have to visit immigration

office somewhere between 60-70 days?

c) Clarification: On the first extension I have to show that I have 400,000 b in bank account here? Is it one

deposit or several ones in certain time period. I have deposit about 600,000 in last half year

My apologize that I did not have time to go through all earlier discussions. I am % sure that these questions

have been asked and answered before.

Thanks advance,

Samiii

There is a lot of confusion here.

A Multi Entry Non O Visa means that you can come and go as many times as you like . Each stay has to be no more than 90 days.

A 12 month Extension based on you having a Thai Wife is this.

Get your Single Non O and go to Immigration within the last month and apply for an Extension of stay based on your marriage to a Thai Lady.

You will need the 400,000 Baht to be in a Thai bank for at least 60 days before you apply.

Take a letter from your bank verifying your account. Up to date bank book. Wife's ID Card and house registration. Photos of you and your wife in and around the house. Map to your house. Marriage Certificate. Passport Size photo. Take your Wife so that she can be interviewed.

You will get a 30 day "Under consideration " stamp. Go back in 30 days and get your extension stamp. If you stay in Thailand for more than 90 days you have to report your address to Immigration ever 90 days.

Do this every year.

With a (non-immigrant) visa you don't need to show a return ticket.

A mulitple non-immigrant visa is valid for one year and gives you the right to an unlimited entries to Thailand. However you can only stay 90 days per entry. After 90 days you have to leave the country but can come right back the same day. You have to leave over a border, so not visit immigration every 90 days for an extension or to report your stay in Thailand for 90 days.

With a multiple you don't do extensions, so you don't need to show 400,000 in a Thai bankaccount.

You can also get an extension of stay for one year. Then you would need to show 400,000 in a Thai bankaccount. You would not have to leave the country every 90 days, but instead report your address every 90 days. If you then want to leave the country you need a re-entry permit to keep your permission to stay in Thailand alive.

400,000 in a Thai bank account

DANG Is that 400,000 OR proof 40,000 per month Income, or both?

Another question, on the family Visa, one is not allowed to work, or even do voluteer work in Thailand right? [or start up a business?]

It is 400,000 in the bank OR 40,000 monthly income.

You can work on this extension if you have a Work Permit.

If you have a Multi Entry Non Immigrant Visa . You have to leave the country every 90 days.

If you have a years extension of stay based on a Thai Wife or retirement or anything else you report your address to Immigration every 90 days.

Okay. This sounds like old multi-entry tourist visa with exception that you need Thai wife. This kind of arrangement suits

me very well and I can easily fulfill the max 90 days requirement without any extra trips. I guess you can renew this visa

any time later. I was thinking that much easier and pleasant time for trip to Finland is summer :o . Thanks again for all answers

I am considering the extension based on marriage. Can I travel in and out if the country freely? I work offshore 4 weeks on 4 weeks off.

Yes. But you need to get a Multi Re Entry Permit from Immigration . 3,800 Baht.

Also you need to be in Thailand every year to re apply and be there 30 days after the application to receive the extension. You have to get your timing right.

dang again >>> If you were in possesion of a Work Permit, would the 'family' visa sort of be, redundant? I was told that on the family visa you are not allowed to work, or even volunteer!?

Can you hold both, but why would you want to if you had a Work visa?

Posted

A work permit is not a permission to stay. When you work in Thailand you need both, first the permission to stay (a visa from a consulate and then enter Thailand, or an extension of stay from an immigration office), then a work permit.

No visa by itself allows you to work, only a work permit does. Whether with family visa you mean a non-O visa (obtained from a Thai consulate) for the purpose of visiting family or an extension of stay (obtained from an immigration office) for the reason of living with your Thai wife, both allow you to apply for a work permit.

for a holder of a one year, multi-entry, Non - imm. 'O' visa the application for an extension must be made during the last 30 days of the current (most recent) 90 day period stamped into the passport on arrival at airport/ border immigration...correct? Or does one have to wait until the end of the 90 days given at the last entry before the visa expires?

Put another way, do those of us who get a 90 day stamp on arrival have to wait 60 days before we can apply for an extension?

Normally Yes. It is always a good idea to apply early in case of any problems.

However it has been reported that Pattaya Immigration are recommending applicants to apply with 60 days left on their stay.

So again it depends on where you apply.

Are these ALL the requirements for applying for a non-o (marriage visa)? Seems a bit simplistic. Is there a thread that details the process because I can't find one anywhere on this site or on the foreign affair's department site.

It really depends on the Thai consulate where you apply. Some consulates only want a copy of the marriage certificate. Some also want to see the original, and/or want a copy of the wife’s ID card and/or house registration, and/or want evidence of funds equivalent to minimum 20,000 Baht, and/or want a copy of a return ticket, and/or an invitation letter from the wife. Some consulates issue only single-entry visas.

The official requirements are on this page of the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs"

Sorry I was not clear.

What are the rules for getting a one-year Marriage visa when applying at immigration? Is there a checklist of requirements and documents needed?

I deleted your other post asking the same question.

There is no such thing as a Marriage Visa. You are asking about a 12 month Extension of your permission to stay.

All Immigration Offices have different ideas but basically the list I gave in Post 2 sums it up.

PLUS.

You can also have a monthly income of 40,000 Baht Instead of the bank deposit. For proof of this you will need a letter from your Embassy if the Income is outside Thailand or Tax receipts if from inside Thailand.
