Teaching In Other Asian Countries

There are some similarities between the private sector in both Thailand and China, but private language schools worldwide tend to be owned and run by sharks and used-car salesmen. It appears to be the nature of the beast. The government tertiary establishments in China however tend to be fairly honest in their dealings with foreign academic staff and are usually pleasant places to work. In China, I have experienced none of the abusive and exploitative behaviour which is so prevalent in Thai "educational" institutions, and my working environment here is stress-free, friendly and laid-back - everything that working in Thailand is purported to be, but in actuality is not. In addition, my work/residence visa takes five days to process once a year, and I don't have to become embroiled with the tedious process at all. Compare that with the Byzantine labyrinth which currently obtains in Thailand!
