I´m a Dutch male, 47 years, married to a Thai citizen for 17 years now and lived in Holland all the time.

Early next year we will be moving to Thailand on a multiple entry non immigrant O visa, based on marriage. This is already agreed by Thai Embassy. I would to like know the possibilities of getting a workpermit for exporting various Thai products (clothings, furniture, silk) from different Thai manufacturers to Europe on a commission base. So I will be self employed and I will be functioning as connection between the Thai manufacturers and European customers, and sometimes I will be combining shipments to different customers. I will be doing this alone, without employees, for the time being. What are the possibilities to get a work permit for this without setting up an expensive Thai company.

Thanks for your help.

Getting a multiple entry visa is not your only option. You can get a one year extension based upon marriage if you can prove income of 40,000 baht per month or a deposit of 400,000 in the bank. With this you don't have to leave the ocuntry every 90 days.

You can get a work permit with a non-o based upon marriage. In order to get a work permit you need to form a Thai company or your wife can start a business as a sole trader. With this arrangement you would still need 2 Thai employees to get the work permit and show a minimum amount of income for the business. What is actually required will depend upon the local labour department office you are dealing with.

Thanks for the answer. Is there a minimum salary for the Thai employees and do they have to work fulltime. Or is it maybe possible to make a foreign branch of my present Dutch (small) company and have the wp through this branch? The income cannot be shown at application as the business has to be started up so I think this has to be discussed with the labour department with the expected income for the first year.

400,000 baht in a bank in Thailand is not an option to get a visa extension.

Since November 25th when the new police order went into effect it is now an option again.

Questions about business/company formations are best answered by a lawyer.

There are a lot of issues when doing this and most will depend upon the local labour office that issues the work permit.
