Can anyone tell me of a good web-design company in Pattaya or Bangkok that can speak good english,

Thanks,

Eamon

the fact that you are demanding that they "speak good english" means that you want a thai company. I have not heard of any good thai web design companies unless you want dreamweaver 2003 flash templates. you can find semi-competent falang for cheap and even professional quality if you are willing to pay a bit more. just define what you require.

Watch out... I have been working in this field when I came to Bangkok and I didn't meet any skilled people who offer their service here at all.

I worked for an international advertising company to build up their web design department and we closed it down after half a year because the market here is just bad. Bad web designers, bad local clients, just not worth our time. Because the advertising agency I worked for is pretty famous so we got high paying jobs, hired "good" people and even tried to outsource some of the jobs to "top" Thai and farang web design companies and while the farang companies did a decent job in coding the design skills of all of them were not up to international standards.

As already mentioned most are Dreamweaver or Template guys who will set you up with a site that looks cheap and is crap. The few good designers, coders I know do not work for clients in Thailand. Why should they?

Thai clients are pain in the @ss to deal with. "Scope creep" (demanding more than you have agreed on) is so normal here and this makes it not worth their time. The few farang clients are OK but why should they bother looking for jobs here when they get thrown after them from other countries with people who are easier to deal with, pay better and are more reliable.

Don't get me started when it comes to Internet Marketing.... you have lots of farang here that read 1-2 ebooks and think they are experts. I met some of them and their outdated "knowledge" is simply stunning. Again there are farang companies but they all work for overseas clients. They are actually quite good but would never touch a local job.

Go for some of the freelance website (google it) and do some research. You are way better of with that than relying on a local company. Some of the eastern European companies do very good jobs for decent rates.

freitag1 - While I agree with some of what you say, any serious company will have a portfolio of websites that potential customers can look through to decide whether their work is up to scratch or not.

The thing with freelancers in Thailand is that most of them do not have a valid work permit and it is only a matter of time before the labor department catches up with them - and if that doesn't stop them, many run out of funds or simply give up and go home, often leaving their customers with an incomplete website and/or lost domain registration. By going to a proper registered company with substantial investments in premises and staff you have a much better chance that every aspect of your website is professionally taken care of end-to-end - and in my experience the cost is usually more or less the same...

Also, yes we do quite a few jobs for overseas clients - but of course we are also happy to work with local customers.

I just shared my view on things as I experienced them. If you want to hire a company make sure to check their portfolio and don't be shy and call some of their clients to get direct feedback on how the company works. Good luck finding the right match.
