There's one opposite Yensabai Condo along Soi 17 called Thais4Life which aids charity too.

There's one next to Tops Supermarket in Tuk.com I think.

There's one on Soi Diana Inn, just at the side of Megabreaks.

There used to be one on Soin Buakhao, opposite the top of Soi Honey Inn but I don't know if it's still there.

Or you could try the library on Soi Yodsak, but everyone I know of that headds down there never comes back with a library book.

Long closed.

Do try Pattaya Beach Books. Two locations. On at the upstairs level of the Tops Mall at 2nd Road and Pattaya Klang. The second on Soi Buakhao on the right hand side walking north from Pattaya Tai.

There is a small one on Soi 3, Jomtien Beach Road. This used to be the Booklovers from Jomtien Condo Complex but she moved.

Now you mention it I remember not seeing it when I was down there yesterday,

But it had only been opened there earlier this year hadn't it so it didn't last long.

I noticed the one by Kiss at Dolphin roundabout as I passed by today too.

Regarding the 2nd Hand Bookshop above Tops on Pattaya Klang/2nd Road.

They off a 50% cash trade-in value for borrowed books.

For example: If you borrow 'Hard Times' by Dickens for 150 Baht and return it after reading, then it has a 75 baht trade value against your next purchase, that might be 'American Psycho' by Ellis costing 200 baht (less 75 Baht=125 Baht).

How about free online books and educational resources?

If you're looking for older stuff that qualifies as "literature" (Dickens, Twain, etc.), try Project Gutenberg:

http://www.gutenberg.org/

If you want really crappy sci-fi, mostly military stuff aimed at twelve-year-old semiliterates, try Baen Books:

http://www.baen.com/

For science, math, and engineering, as well as other college class subjects, try MIT's Open CourseWorks:

http://ocw.mit.edu/

For learning foreign languages, there are a gazillion websites set up by universities and private individuals to teach bits and pieces, mostly the basics. One guy set up a really great one for learning Japanese, targeted at passing the JLPT (an exam that Japanese companies use when evaluating foreigners for jobs):

http://www.jlptstudy.com/

Also available online are such fine publications as The Economist, part of the Wall Street Journal (all of it if you pay for a subscription), and plenty of other resources.

http://www.economist.com/

http://www.wsj.com/

http://www.opinionjournal.com/

If you can't spend hours tied to the web, you can download most materials onto your PC or laptop for perusal at your leisure.

I am deeply saddened to report that the second-hand book store on Soi Diana as mentioned above has now closed.

Not so sad. It was the poorest used bookstore in town.

I agree it was small and difficult to navigate, but I picked up two very rare books there for a few hundred baht that are worth 2nd hand about US$ 50 each. So I have happy memories of searching out bargains and rare books there.

The great thing about 2nd hand bookstores is that personal important finds are possible. I like the TOPS upstairs bookstore, but often find that it is 'plucked' of all good reading material very quickly and that really, 95% of its stock remains static.

The bookstore on Soi 3 Jomtien is worth a bi-monthly visit but it is mostly the 'James Patterson' crowd that sniff around in there and the odd 'Jeffrey Archer' bore.

Canterbury Tales on soi Chayapoom a couple of doors down from Crazy Dave's. Massive selection and they also offer 50% trade in. Good breakfast too.

The Bookshop mentioned above looks good, and my friend went there for her books whilst visiting Pattaya, did not rate the Breakfast at all though.
