Cushions.

Such occasions are hard on the knees :o

Thai wife says nothing really special but if the new house owners don't have them a nice set of entry statues could be nice to "guard" the front door. Or a just a bottle of wine or some flowers.

Having been through a few of these myself...would suggest a few bottles of decent wine and drink them yourself during the blessing or as somebody else has mentioned...cushions...otherwise the knees are going to hurt

Any housewarming gift you would give to a friend moving into a new house anywhere in the world. And as others mentioned, potted plants they can keep inside or outside are usually appreciated and are definitely a common gift. Even an artificial arrangement they could use as a table center piece would be nice.

Bf says that fruit is often given (especially if Chinese-Thai.), particularly a box of Oranges has some kind of special significance and is often given at any special occasion. Also plants (indoor or out). Clocks are often given too, in the hope that the person who gave the clock will be remembered each time the clock is looked at. Depends also on what the person may need. If a new couple without much basics, then a gift of something useful for the home such as kitchen item would be appreciated.

Lastly, as a special gift, a Buddha statue may be given, but bf says must have gone through a special blessing process via the temple/monks.

At my bf's house blessing he received a Buddha statue and people brought VAST amounts of food to join together to give to the monks and guests.

Hope that helps and you have a nice time.

You are all generous.

We are having our third (and final, thank goodness) House Blessing early March.

We live out in the sticks.

Saturday evening:- 9 monks giving blessing ceremony followed by village party.

Sunday morning:- Monks back for more blessing plus feast, followed by the village eating all thats left over.

What have I got??

Boxes of beer, Lao Kao, Coke etc.,

A pig or 2 plus all the other food requirements,

Deafness from the non-stop loud music,

A happy wife (and a village with hangovers)

AND

A large hole in the pocket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck and enjoy the experience.
