Use Fax

Featured Replies

Cannot understand why + cannot find any help regard to this...

Bought a plain paper fax a couple of months ago. HP officejet J3500

I have a 1mb phone line, the PC + TV Dreambox is connected via the 'moden out' to a router, the 'phone out' connects the phone + the Fax machine..

If the phone or Fax is used while I am watching TV then the TV freezes, restarts when the phone/fax call has finished, likewise if I am downloading anything on the PC and the phone or Fax is used then the download stops.

I have tried 3 different phone/modem line splitter boxes all are the same

Please advise, or is this normal here?

First of all there is no such thing as a 1 MB phone line.

You MAY have a 1 MB internet connection that uses your phone line.

When your fax machine turns on it automatically grabs your phone line for fax use.

Solution, get a dedicated phone line for your fax.

I'm no tech expert but here is my opinion:

We also use a splitter (fax and two dial-up modems on the phone out line and ADSL modem/router on the modem out) and all work well at the same time. Of course only one dial-up modem or fax can run at any one time but this does not affect the ADSL line.

Have you tried to get a splitter/filter from your ISP?

Did the problem occur only after you installed the fax or did you have the problem before with only using the phone.

Is the phone part of your fax and is the fax connected to a PC via USB?

Is your phone line, PCs and fax properly grounded?

Any device, apart from your ADSL router needs a splitter to connect to the telephone line.

Then Internet service should NOT be affected by POTS Plain Old Telephone devices.............

No will try to get a Filter and see what happens

Only after connection Fax machine

Yes via USB, after upgrading PC to Vista could no longer use the PC as a Fax 'WinFax' will not work in Vista so bought the Fax machine
Is your phone line, PCs and fax properly grounded?

PC yes, Fax is only 2 pin, as are both laptops and both TV Dreamboxes

Another odd thing:

I have on the phone out my wireless base station with 4 phones and now the Fax machine, when some one calls and I answer on one of the phones the fax machine keeps on ringing, yet I can talk fine on the phone, but I must answer within the 1st 2 rings, on the 3rd ring phones will stop, line blank if answer, Fax will continue to ring.

In UK had the same sort of set up with none of these problems, wish I had brought the Fax with me but is was many years old, the wireless phones and base station I did bring with me.

What happens when you disconnect the USB from Fax to PC?

Never tried as almost everything sent is via the USB from PC to Fax.

to print out every sheets of all the price lists every day and then fax would take forever

Have noticed that if the connection is cut, or the USB is pulled out, then the PC has to search for the software again, only just noticed this after finding 32 copies of the HP driver on the hard drive. Deleted copy 1 -31
