Vientienne Laos is the best bet. You can get a double entry that would get you almost 6 months.

Sorry but it looks like the bus is the only way from CM.

As you already have one from Vientiene you know the score.

4 pages seems OK. (make sure all the pages are indeed intended for visa stamps, some pages are intended for for other purposes). After returning better aply for a new passport as soon as possible.

You do not say what Visa you want. Most people from Samui go to Penang Malaysia.

Penang will issue a single entry.

Kota Bharu Malaysia will issue a double entry. So will Vientiene Laos.

I belive air asia still flys to KL from CM for a decent price. might cost you a bit more on accommodation bit at least you get a free visa into malaysia and don't have to waste a page in your passport.

around 7500 return it looks like.

how does 6 months on a double entry work? You go to immigration in bangkok after the first 60 days is about to expire, then get an extention for 30? Do they really give that I thought it was just 7 or so.. thanks

It's only 7 days for a visa on arrival. It's 30 days on a tourist visa issued at an embassy

You go to any Immigration Office and get a 30 day extension. When this is nearly finished you do a border run and activate your second entry. When this is nearly finished you get another 30 day extension. Total almost 6 months.

and so can one simply get a second double entry after the second 30 day extention of the second entry? It strikes me as odd one can still live here ternally on tourist visas.

Have you heard about ED visa? Many have not. If you have, have you considered it? The costs you are quoting are quite significant. I think we could save you a lot of money! If you need more info let me know or email our school [email protected]

When is your school in Chiang Mai supposed to open? I know about 5 or 6 people who would like to enroll some time during this year.

Thanks

Four pages should be ok. One thing to consider though is that they sometimes skip a page for the next stamp. This has happened to me a couple of times, and also happened just recently upon entering Laos, where they skipped a left page and put the visa sticker on the right. I would suggest humbly notifying them that you only have four pages left and ask for the stamp or sticker to be placed on consecutive pages.

It seems they like to put the visa always on the right-hand page, never on the left side, and they jump a blank page if necessary do do so. At least that has been the case with 13 of the 14 visa stamps I have received over the years.

It just happened to me again, I got my Non Immigrant ED visa sticker on the right side, leaving a blank empty left page. I wonder if there is some kind of rule that the stickers has to be placed on the right side of an empty page, I'm thinking perhaps it's to leave room for a stamp next to it that has to be in that order. But when I entered Thailand a couple of hours ago they put the entry stamp on the previous page spread among a bunch of other stamps.

Maybe it's a left brain right brain subconscious thing. Must... put... stamp... on... right... side...

My thinking is along the same lines, and that it harks back to the time when entry and exits stamps were much bigger, with a pair of them filling a whole page. Then you had the visa on the right filling one page, the entry and exit stamps on the left filling the other page. All very neat, as long as the immigration officers played the game. Later, many travellers did not need a visa, the entry and exits stamps started getting smaller and smaller, immigration officers busier, and neatness went out of the window.

This was neatness, but passports were bigger at that time and it is the only time that it ever happened:

The quote function does not work on my cell browser, but anyhow, that's one helluva stamp! Yea, that's probably the reason, these were supposed to be together but then when the stamps changed the original setup still remained.

If so, one might think that it would matter little to them to put it in a consecutive order, if asked, or perhaps even that it doesn't matter at all when doing a visa run, since they obviously can and do put their stamps before the sticker.
