Any Chance Of Six Weeks In Lao?

I have one more week near Portland Oregon before one month touring through the Issan. I'm hoping to only be in BKK a few days. Any advice on getting a visa for six weeks in Lao. I'm aware that VOA is 30 days. If I have to do a visa run back to Thailand then do I have to pay for a visa for Thailand just to turn around and go back into Lao?

No charge for a Thai "visa exempt" 15-day chop if you return to Thailand, but you'd have to pay $35 to re-enter Laos for another 30-day chop.
