is there any free software availale on the net which helps creat a bootable windows xp setup CD?

Why? The XP setup CD is already bootable. It would be redundant.

You can create bootable Windows install discs from a non-bootable Windows disc (such as the old-style MSDN subscription discs or images) or from a system with Windows preinstalled, and slipstream the latest service packs or any other software you need (as when you need customized recovery discs).

I would start with the following two sites. The process is not difficult starting with Windows 2000:

1. How to Create a Bootable Windows XP Setup Disk on a Preinstalled / Preloaded Windows System http://www.howtohaven.com/system/createwin...setupdisk.shtml

2. Bart's way to create bootable CD-Roms (for Windows/Dos) http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/

Hi Paul

I greatly appreciate your kindness.

My OS is windows xp sp3. The Bart's way to create bootable CD-Roms is for windows xp sp1. Can I just follow the steps on my pc ? Or should I modify some point?

Download NLite.

It's a program that allows you to modify a WindowsXP setup folder, e.g. add ServicePack 3 and make several tweaks. And then it creates a new (bootable) image, which you can burn to CD.

There are several manuals on the web for NLite, try googling 'NLite eeepc', since this program is used by many eeepc owners to strip down the size of a windows installation.
