My friend has just called, in a distraught state, from Manila. He has just be refused a Thai tourist visa by the Thai Embassy there on the grounds that he has already been in Thailand for 90days in the current 6 month period. He is a genuine Danish tourist who works in tourism in Denmark and has been spending his 5 months off season time in Thailand every year for the past 7 years.

Is it possible that another embassy in e.g. KL or Vientianne would give him his visa?

Can anyone give me up-to-date info on this one please?

Yes, there shouldn't be any problem with him getting a new tourist visa in KL or Vientianne (can probably get a DOUBLE ENTRY there). Manila has a reputation for that kind of thing. The rule they cited does not exist in general for Thai immigration but it may be their own weird rule for that embassy, Thai embassies are often a law unto themselves. If he had posted here, he would have been warned about Manila.

If he is already booked to fly into Thailand, he will get a 30 visa free stamp on entry. If he wanted he could do a quick fly out at the end of the 30 days and reenter and get another 30 day visa free stamp. That way, he could avoid applying for any new tourist visa if he only needs 60 days and has already booked the flight back to Thailand.

I would have a concern about boarding the flight in Manila without a visa. Assuming hes going to Thailand, he should probably purchase a ticket leaving Thailand within 30 days, so if he is challenged about boarding, that will probably work to be allowed to board.

Many reports of Manila being unfriendly on this forum.

They are quoting a rule that no longer exists and never applied to any visa.

He can fly back to Thailand and get a 30 day exempt entry without a problem. The old 90 days in 6 months rule was eliminated on Nov. 25 of last year. But if he was to do a border run he would only get 15 days on entry.

He can then go to any nearby consulate and get single entry tourist visa. Vientiane will give a 2 entry if he needs that much time.

The so called 90 day rule has been abolished, but didn't apply to people on a tourist visa anyway.

Advise him to go to Vientianne for a double tourist visa.

I'm Filipino and I'm not happy how Filipino staff in Thai embassy in Makati work...they're so unprofessional. my wife applied for Non-O dependent visa and they're looking for company registration!!

At first, she went there and the staff said they need the company registration..so she called me here in thailand..then I ask for the registration from our HR who doesnt speak english very well...I scanned it and sent via email...my wife go to internet cafe around glorietta (around 500 meters from the embassy)...she went back to embassy..but the staff there said its wrong..its a household registration...she called me again...I asked the HR again for the registration...okay..i assume its correct this time...i scanned it and mail it...my wife went back to glorietta...check the email and print..then go back to embassy...then the staff said its wrong again (2nd time)...its a request for business registration that i got...she called me and so mad...the staff also said that they needing also the ID card of the signatory...there my wife is so pissed..why the he1L they're asking the ID..then I went back to our HR and told them the problem...so the HR check everything until i finally get the company registration...i scanned it then send it to my wife email...but..my wife is so pissed that she doesnt want to go back to the embassy...there...she decided not to apply for non-O visa!

this situation is the same when you go to philippine embassy here in bangkok...very unprofessional and rude!

so everyone...i suggest not to apply for visa in Philippines...better get in cambodia, laos or malaysia...
