It is part of the new "welcome to Thailand and get arrested" campaign, in association with TAT of course. Don't concern yourselves about the charges, the police will think of something. The wide coverage of Harry has created demand for other foreigners to experience the real LOS.

I didn't know it was against the law to have sex behind closed doors. When did they introduce the no sex please we are thai policy. No sex in thailand, 1st the demos at the airport now a ban on sex the thai economy is going to be in real bad shape without the sex tourists comming. What is going to happen to places like Pattaya. I am married to a thai and living in chiangmai just hope I don't get that knock on the door in the middle of the night.

if there were hookers its illegal. PROSTITUTION IS ILLGEAL HERE. It's corruption that foreigners AREN'T arrested for it. are you seriously suggesting that pattaya and sex tourism are GOOD for thailand? i have to say that most thai's ive met and even a fair perecentage of the foreigners i meet (younger ones who dont have to pay for it) think its all disgusting. sex tourism is bad. its the symptom of high corruption, no law and order, low education and lack of oppotunity, social inequality, lack of genuine development and moral degradation. only hookers, pimps, seedy bar owners and selfish morally corrupt people like sex tourism. thailand's a real country with real people. its not just here for the amusent of foreigners. there are more important things than getting money any way you can. the good people of the world wait for the end of sex tourism south east asia.

Hate to break the news to you, but prostitution is done more between Thais then between Thais and foreigners. If you think it is immoral, fine, but don't kid yourself that this is a foreign phenomenon or that young men do not particiapte.

Regarldess, prostitution has nothing to do with this case. The police reports were specific that no prostitutes were at the party.

There are western countries where prositution is legal you know......

It is sad that the sex industry is the best "career" move that many youg people can make - but the majority of people involved in the "industry" do so by choice because they want more in life..... they are not forced into it on the penalty of death or starvation.......

It is sad that alot of "workers" start out with the intention of making money & getting out but end up addicted to drugs etc..... (Amy Winehouse???)

But it is what it is, and things are as they are, and really it is not so terrible.......

"the good people of the world wait for the end of sex tourism south east asia" - perhaps it would be better stated 'the good people of the world wait for the day when the good people of south east have better prospects, and no longer choose to work in the sex industry'....... but then south east asia will be "developed" like the rest of the world and all the tree huggers and 'dollar-a-day' college drop out wasters will have no where "discover" themselves......

Human trafficing, people forced into prositution against their will, pedeophilia, etc. is all deplorable - offences should be punishable by death..... but please do infer that because we don't all agree with your point of view that we are morally inferior people......

*I know my spelling is crap - I don't need tuition - thank you :o

Briton accused over Thai 'sex parties' AAP

February 5, 2009, 5:28 pm function pop(url, title, x, y){ rm=window.open(url,title,'width='+x+',height='+y+',resizable=no,scrollbars=yes,status=0'); if (rm != null) { rm.focus(); if (rm.opener == null ) rm.opener = self;} } A British man has been charged in Thailand over organising so-called "swinging" parties during which couples swap sexual partners, tourist police say.

Christian Arthur Richards, 54, was arrested early on Thursday along with six Thais and 16 foreigners including Australian, US, French, Indian and Chinese citizens at one of the parties in a Bangkok hotel.

Tourist police commander Colonel Archayon Kraithong said Richards advertised the orgies on his website, and then charged 3,000 baht ($A130) for couples and singles to participate.

"He is under interrogation, but has been charged with procurement and commercial sex advertisements, which could land him 10 years jail term or a fine of up to 20,000 baht ($A880)," Archayon told AFP.

The 22 participants from Thailand, China, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, France, the United States and Australia were all released after paying fines of up to 1,000 baht, Archayon added.

Richards, who is married to a Thai woman, is alleged to have organised at least 100 swinging parties in Bangkok and the seamy resort town of Pattaya over the last three years.

Although prostitution is officially illegal in Thailand, the kingdom has a reputation for its sleazy bars and explicit sex shows, and the sex tourism industry here is believed to employ hundreds of thousands of Thais.

Archayon said there were no prostitutes at the swinging party.

If you do hear from her and she was in fact there, please let us know what happened as a result.

Got a hold of her, she wasn't there on this night.

(In fact she said she hadn't been there the recent weeks for unrelated reasons.)

So, false alarm luckily.

Now if anyone has any info on what happened to the non-organizers it would be interesting from a judicial standpoint.

Guys & gals,

This topic has nothing to do with that thing (P word) that we are not supposed to discuss on TV.

I can see this thread getting closed up because of this. Nowhere in the OP's original post does the P Word get mentioned.

actually, i am rather glad the sex party got busted.

a few years back i stayed with my family at the soi 33 novatel, and all night long all we could hear were moanings and thumpings from the next door sex tourist. my wife complained to the desk the next morning and just got a shrug in return.

that was just one couple.... i can image the soundtrack from 23 ppl...

Maybe your wife complained since she wasn't getting the same. Don't confuse a healthy sex life with a sex tourist.

You sound jealous.

Regarldess, prostitution has nothing to do with this case. The police reports were specific that no prostitutes were at the party.

Wake up! Everything is prostititution. Even if you marry a Thaigirl or any Girl or woman. Ask your self why a young or younger Thaigirl woman would marry a older foreigner? There are plenty of young Thaiboys available, but why she choices a foreigner? You maybe not a sex tourist, but even if, for example, you buy her a house or a car or a gold neckless or a handphone, you not pay with money, but you pay with matirial. So what's the difference between prostitution and marriage? It's exactly the same. Wich woman in any country would stay with her husbund, if he is a loser? Even in western countries they run away in such a case. Prostituion is the oldes profession in the world and whats wrong with it? Why in the US is everybody so depressed? Because they can't get what they want, no relaxation, to many laws and NO FUN. Why Pattaya and Phuket have so many hotels? Why in Pattaya and Phuket the house and property prises are so high? Why in Pattaya and Phuket exist so many shopping centres? Why older males come to Thailand and spend their pension overhere? The reason of this in't the gulf of Siam!!!

Now some wery important question: Why in the US so many peaple are so depressed angry and crazy? Streetgangs fighting, racissm, Latinos against Blacks, Withe against Chineses, etc. It's the pressure they have from their System and NO Relaxation NO Fun, NO Satisfaction. Why Moslems, Christians, Hindus, Buddists can stay all together in Pattaya without any troubles? Because everyone gan get relax, satisfaction and freedom, the way he likes, therefore no terror. Similar like in Switzerland, where prostitution is legal. Result: Almost the safest country in the world. So what's wrong with prostitution????

I think few farang here know the "system". Thailand like other Asian nations is a conservative nation shy about sex. Really. Of course, when you see Patpong and the likes, Farang imagine that it is indicative of the entire nation. Yes there are coyote bars just about every block. But, by and large this nation is really a rice field nation, and there are strong efforts by some to keep it that way. Sex is much more tolerated than other nearby nations, but excessive public drunkenness and sexual behavior in non-designated areas is not. Hotels are not private residences, and even then Thais are used to a spying neighbor. You all know Thais, they always know everything about you. They are gossip obsessed.

The difference is that Thais inherently understand where, when, and how they can "have fun" Just because Thailand has girly bars doesn't mean having sex in the street will be tolerated. The way to have fun here is basically discreetly and with a "wai". You can kill people then "wai", and its all ok, because you are polite. Just look at Kanpitak, the Mercedes brat who cold heartedly ran over bus passengers killing them and got his sentence reduced because he's "polite" and "well connected". and he "wais" on his way to the courtroom.

Power also plays an important factor. Police back home arrest criminals. In Asia, police go after anyone who won't beat them up, fire them, etc. So police DON'T go after Airport Protesters who not only are vicious but have political clout and can and do hire thugs. Yes, that is the system, ASIA even so called modern Japan, police arrest the WEAK and AVOID real entrenched CRIMINALS. Thats because those entrenched ones run the government, big business, and the like. Police are minor thugs here, and they know their rank. They can be fired at any moment for offending the real criminals, whom the chief of police reports to. There is no such thing as right or wrong in Asia, morals don't exist in Asia, Asians are power hungry and respect POWER above all else. Money is a form of it.

Tourists are among the weaker ones, not being citizens, can't speak the language and don't understand how to take advantage of any legal rights they may have. Only thing protecting us is our passport, lucky most Asians are afraid enough of that. But not police. Everyone knows what Thais do to migrant workers. They beat the hel_l out of them, rape them, force them into long hours, etc. Ever hear of Rohginya? Or Vietnam boat people? When they die nobody cares or even cares to count them, for CENTURIES its been this way. Only lately Western NGO's making a fuss and in ASIA they PRETEND to solve the problem because it seems important to RICH WHITE FARANG.

How do you think Patpong runs? Do you honestly think Patpong is run by people just begging to be prostitutes? Why do you think money is so goddamn important in Asia, because if Asians are in debt, they come over to your house and threaten to kill your mother, beat up your family. Why do you think they require you to fill out info about your family in loans, when you apply for work, all that? No such thing as private information, no such thing as bankrupty and protection from creditors here, its all about beating the hel_l of out people and their loves ones who are a penny short. This system is no different in Malaysia, China, Korea, Japan, or Thailand, just the superficial part is changed. Rich well connected people IN ASIA don't want just your money, they wanna own your dignity and soul, your body parts, your family, your life, EVERYTHING. If you think this financial crisis isn't about conquering the West, you are <deleted> STUPID about debt and money and slavery. You KNOW in China they threw in thousands of live slaves when the emperor died. Nothing has fundamentally changed since those days. Yes Asians with power are that <deleted> ghetto, because they think they are kings, and by and large they are. Thats why the ultra rich <deleted> hate the US and West so much, because its the only thing keeping them from being a real king. WAKE UP...THIS IS ASIA. You are in a land of entrenched thugs who are used to owning everything and everybody and you just arrived.

The whole story is as farsical, as thai life itself. Any ladies (or men) participating had any complaints?

Any participants underage?

Any men (or ladies) where raped?

Is viagra illegal in Thailand?

The only thing the police can stick on them is watching porn.

Even this I'm not sure of... is it illegal here?

I know for a fact that doing it is quite legal...

So, what's the big deal?

:D:o:D

The Show Must Go On......

Why isn't it possible to write a story that they all had just a massage? Oh sorry I forgot that CD's are illegal? Porno books? Was it a legal Penthouse Magazine? How bad must the 23 people be to have 30 V's? I understand the they'd to cover their face...but in the end they'll buy flowers for their wives in..mai lou tee nai and all will be okay.... Good luck for those who already came......home....lol

Well, here in MHS, there is an area known for providing drugs to man farang. But it is also known by the locals that they get money for notifying the police of people buying drugs in that area. So, they know a good deal when they see one.

Also, I have been doing a lot of traveling outside of BKK/Chonburi/South Islands and I am not seeing any prostitution. What I do see here are foreigners without shirts, driving like they are on speed with a motorcycle in the quiet streets of Pai, and people driving with cigarettes in one hand and a beer in the other hand. I had a beer last night for the first time in months, it was a big Chang, and I had it with dinner in my home. I fell asleep after about 3/5 of the beer. I called a friend and asked why it made me so tired, while I watch folk sit on the streets and drink beer after beer. She told me: "because they are drunks." Now that I am trying to stop drinking, and I sit here at my computer with TEA, and not alcohol, I find that alcohol really does affect me, even a little bit.

Another thing I am realizing is that those who drink alot actually DO HAVE behavior changes, and mood swings, and they, their memories, their anger, they behavior is quite unpredicatable, as are thier mouths.

In Thailand, social is everything, and a lot of these manthet forget why they are called "farang."

I can see this happing, more and and more and more.

Also, I have had good relationships with the police. The police here are skilled at running a police state, unlike most of the rest of the world. We should be learning from their skills, including their skills in taking bribes.

When I was in Cambodia, I met a policeman who had been called by one friend to witness an accident, when he arrived, he realized the other victim was also a friend. I was invited to dinner. There was a very big dinner. The policeman told me I could order whatever I wanted, because they were both his friends and since he couldn't lose a friendship, both were paying for dinner and the table (which was fairly large) was full of men eating and drinking and the two guys who had been in the accident were now friends as both were now paying the cop via dinner, and we could eat anything we wanted, and the food was incredible! But, as I understand it, no money was to go to the cop, just a very painful dinner check so that they learned not to put him in this situation again. Both of the men at dinner seemed to be happy with the solution, but I guess they both had to pay for their car repairs now.

What?????????????????????????????? :o

ummmm - that was my thought also 5555 - makes one wonder is perhaps its just too hot there na

I think few farang here know the "system". Thailand like other Asian nations is a conservative nation shy about sex. Really. ../long drivel snipped/..

You claimed Thailand is conservative and have been so for hundreds of years. Not so. The Victorian values that is on the rise since the 30ies is IMPORTED and not native to the country.

Much like North Africa and the Middle East had foreigners visit and proclaim that the countries was filled with smut and sexual filth (belly dancing, harems etc), the countries started adopting a more western guilt-about-sex-way only to be meet today by 'how can you be so oppressive'-mentality and the likes of you that pretend it's pat of the culture. It's not. It's just a delayed correction towards the influence from the west.

I just hope we can work against some of the western hysteria about sex (especially the trade of it). Even in the US, the land of the Free, it's more accepted to show a man having his head blown off than two men kissing. A kick to the groin is accepted in PG-13 movies but not a naked breast of a woman.

Killing and violence is more accepted than love and sex. Something is sick in the world.
