Hi All,

I have a Non- Immigrant multiple entry ED Visa (issued in the UK), valid for 90 days and due to expire on Feb 23.

Can anyone tell me how I can renew this Visa and what paper work if any I need (I'm studying and the school can give me a letter if necessary).

I'm thinking of flying to P Penn in Cambodia on the 23rd to get my stamp, but not sure if they issue ED Visas there or given that I have a multiple entry visa already if I even need a new one. I've had conflicting advice about visas being renewed especially multiple entry ones and the countries that do it, so if anyone can give me definitive advice it would be most welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Al

If you have the required paper work - from your College

You should be able to apply for a year's extension at Immigration

You say you have multiple entry visa. When you say expires is it the visa or the stamp for your permit stay that you are talking about? The visa has a use by date which should be one year from date of issue.

If is is the permit to stay that is running out all you have to do is leave and re-enter the country to get another 90 days.

If it is the visa and it is a multuple entry you can leave and re-enter the day before the use by date and get another 90 days.

As said if ypu can get the proper paper work from the school you can get and extension of stay at immigration which can be 1 year or 90 days.

Thanks to you both for getting back to me..

I mean the stamp expires on the 23rd. The visa says issued on 17th Nov 2008 and 'enter before 16 nov 2009', but the stamp i got when i arrived on the 26th nov 08 says admitted until 23rd feb. Does this mean I can just leave on the 23rd, with no paper work and come back a few days later to get another 3 month stamp? Sorry if I'm being stupid over this..

To get a 1 year extension from my college I'd have to go full time and pay in advance, which i can't do, but they are happy to give me another 3 month one if i need it.

You can cross the border on the 22nd (or before) and come back the same day and get another 90 days. No paper work required.

You can keep doing that until 15 Nov. this year.

Also if you do a border run on 15th November you will get another 90 days.

You can leave whenever you want. You don't have to wait till the 90 days are over. Every time you enter Thailand before 16 Nov. 2009 you will get a fresh 90 days to stay. As stated, leave and re-enter on the 14th or 15th of Nov and you get a fresh 90 days.

I think he is asking if it is OK to leave on 23rd February.

Is it OK? - I would like to know thae answer to that also!

Believe you are right.

Leaving on the 23rd would mean 1 day overstay. That is not a real problem. They make a note of that in the passport and you have to pay 500 baht. (At airports they waive the fee for 1 day overstay) But so far that is it. People have reported much longer overstay and not having any problem to return to Thailand.

I am afraid this is not so simple, just a letter from a school will not get you a year's extension, at least I have not seen such cases recently. If he has a second letter from the Ministry of Education then he will be able to make extensions here at the immigration and those will be most likely 90 day extensions. Going to a border can be a pain in the neck, more expensive than local immigration extensions and it takes longer.

If you can get the required paper work from your school, you can extend your visa at the immigration office to one year. Cost is 1900 baht and it takes 10 mins. Ask your school's office of registrar or such. No need to go out of the country.

I find it confusing.

The OP has a multiple entry visa, then he has to re-enter Thailand many times in this year to make this visa useable.

Now, what if someone has a single entry non-immigrant visa valid for 1 year. I wonder how is he to continue making his visa valid then, since he can only re-enter once or none using it.

The only single-entry non-immigrant visa valid for one year would be the non-OA visa. In this case after entering Thailand, he would go to an immigration office and get a re-entry permit. With this permit, after leaving and re-entering Thailand, he will again get permission to stay until the same date as he received when he entered the first time. With a multiple-entry re-entry-permit, he can leave and re-enter Thailand an unlimited number of times during the validity of his re-entry permit.

In fact you can get a re-entry permit on any kind of visa,

allowing you to keep the current entry stamp alive whilst you leave the country.
