Bangkok Horseracing

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am seeking some information in regards to the Bangkok races. I have noticed a small summary of results from the RBSC that appears after racedays that seem to occur every Sunday.

Does anyone attend these racedays? In Australia i always enjoyed a day out at the races and was wanting to know if it is a similar atmosphere and concept over here.

Does everyone get dressed up for the occassion? Are there lots of gorgeous drunk women wearing unusually large hats? Are there punters losing all their money to the bookies. What mix of people attend, upper class, middle class, Thai or Farang. Or all of the above?

Is it a a lot of fun here in Bangkok? A good day out? I would appreciate any feedback

Considering Gambleing is illegal in Thailand, i doubt there will be any "loosing your shirt"

I've always wondered why they have horse racing here if you cant gamble. (legally)

There is gambling at the racetrack...

Don't forget to wear shoes.

Never been to the track but know that gambling as organized by the turf club is legal. This is the only legal gambling in Thailand apart from the lottery. No offtrack betting though.

You learn something new everyday! :o

Don't expect anything of quality. The nags are rather iffy and the place is a bit of a throwback to a bygone age...........

Racing takes place every Sunday alternately at the Royal Bangkok Sports Club in Henri Dunant Road and at the Turf Club in Nang Lerng (but check - some Sundays there is no racing if it's a holiday or Wan Phra for example).

As already mentioned the legal gambling is all on the Tote System - there are a lot of illegal bookmakers around too but as a Farang and speaking no Thai you will not know how to proceed here anyway.

By Internatinoal standards the "horses" are actually Ponies.

Unless you are a Member of the Club - or a Guest of a Member - you will only have access to the Public Stands which frankly are not a very nice place to be, the clientele is almost exclusively from the poorer strata of Thai society.

its a load of crap! all ponies nothing compared to the country gallops in oz :o

keep your money as most races are rigged and its corrupt as ###### :D

i know because my old thai business was a member there and was only betting on tips of his so-called friends in the know :D

btw unless you go with a member forget about it, its really third class :D
