Can you just drive over and stamp your Visa and come back? Sure would like to hear if anyone is doing this.

If you have Malaysian insurance and a carnet, you can drive in and out as you like as long as both have not expired. I last had 3 months Malaysian insurance ... worked out at around B1,600 only.

You can park the truck at Sadao and walk or get a motorbike over and come straight back. Takes 30 minutes

A few years ago we drove down to the border in a rented jeep, went across to Malaysia, had a coffee, turned around and drove back into Thailand with a new stamp. Not sure about the legality of it, but it worked then.

At Sado/Bukit Kayu Hintam (never cross using other border post), you can purchase Malaysian's vehucle insurance, which is compulsary. Over tinted windows may not be allowed, you should double check.

It depends on how far into M'sia you wanna go. If you just wanna cross the border, get to the border town on the M'sian side and come back, then you need nothing.

Otherwise you will need to have the car's license translated into English by the Department of Transportation's office in Songkhla. You will need this translated document when you buy a car insurance in M'sia. There are shops that sell car insurance just across the border. Another thing is you would need to have you license plate translated into English. This is normally done in a form of a bumper sticker the same size as the Thai license plate and can be done by many sticker shops in Hat Yai for a couple of hundreds Baht.
