I want to get a single re-entry Visa at the consulate in Bangkok, but I'm not exactly sure of my exit and return dates. I could need to fly out in 2 days, or maybe not for another 2 weeks.

I do know at the Thai Embassy in Washington, DC, that knowing these dates aren't required.

However the online application form *requires* you to enter the dates.

Anyone know if I leave it blank or enter the wrong dates it would cause me any problems?

No . It does not matter what you put. Your Re Entry Permit will expire when your current permision to stay date expires.

wow that was a quick reply! thanks! exactly what I figured to be the case :o

Your Re Entry Permit gets the same expiry date as your pemision to stay date in your passport.

I know this not to entirely be the case. Re-entry visas expire within 90 days of getting it, or when your tourist visa expires - whatever happens first.

So lets say you apply for a tourist visa and a re-entry visa at the same time. And say you enter Thailand 80 days after getting both. Although your tourist visa gives you 2 months, your re-entry visa will expire within 10 days.

This is of course according to the Thai Embassy in DC, and three separate people there told me the same thing (after about 10 minutes of them trying to agree with each other).

You can only get a Re Entry Permit from Immigration in Thailand. It expires when your permision to stay date expires. Be that 12 months or 12 days.

Are we taliking about the same thing here? You mentioned in your post.

There are no Thai Consulates in Bangkok. There is no such thing as a Single Re Entry Visa.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying the people at the Embassy in DC would say you are wrong. But to be honest, they never seemed to know what they are talking about (assuming they can even speak English). Each official would tell me contradictory things. But it's all I had to go by. But hey, if Thai gov't officials knew their own immigration laws and posted them online properly, ThaiVisa.com wouldn't exist, right? :D

Also, I said 'single', not 'Single'. You can get up to three, and they used the term 'single' or 'multiple'.

And when I said 'Consulate', I meant to say 'Immigration at Suan Phlu'. I still have the word Consulate stuck in my head from my last visit to Laos . . . sorry! :o

I don't think they were pointing out your capitalization. It was directed at the fact that a re-entry permit is not a visa.

oops another typo . . . meant to say permit! Man my brain is fried tonight for some reason . . .

We're not sure exactly what the OP is talking about. He mentions "re-entry visa". We thought he was talking about a "re-entry permit", but we'll need some clarlification to know exactly what he means.

You're talking about the number of entries on a tourist visa. This has nothing to do with a "re-entry permit" which can only be obtained from a Thai Immigration office IN Thailand.

You are right about the expire date for a multiple re-entry visa, but there is a single re-entry visa which cost 1000 bath,a multiple re-entry cost aprox,3900 bath. But you get this in the Immigration office.

The Op is confused and mixes all terms such as most of us.

He does know he needs "something" to come back withouth loosing whatever he has, that must be a beginning.

I do regret Lopburi left TV, he would have understood the OP meant "Re-entry permit" and "immigration"

Explaining what it all is ("single" versus "multiple" Re-entry) would have helped.

Thank You

actually i'm back in Canada i have a "O-A" visa multiple entries.... now this visa expire on Sept. 07 so i have to enter into the Kingdom before this date to be granted for one more year stamp but can't go out of the country without losing the privilege of the one year stay except if i apply for a re-entry visa ? am i correct ? do i have to apply before the expiration date or can it be done at anytime during my stay ?

Posted

Correct. Yes after Sept 7th you need a Re Entry Permit if you wish to exit the country. Available from Immigration you can apply anytime. It will be valid until the end of your current stay.

Posted

Which means do not apply until after you make your last entry using the visa. One you make that entry the re-entry will keep that permitted to stay until date alive.

Your Re Entry Permit gets the same expiry date as your pemision to stay date in your passport.

Maybe I will have as much Visa knowledge as yourself one of these days :

Permit me to ask this query then . As you probably know from my previous posts I have a retirement Visa: So on the question of re-entry its stamped on my retirement renewal which I not see before re-entry, does this mean I can go and visit another country and on return to Thailand I will not lose my 1 Year retirement ?

Mac. I think you have a 12 month extension . Not a Visa.

If you need to leave the country you will need to go and see your freinds at Nong Khai Immigration and apply for a Re Entry Permit. 1,000 Baht for a single and 3,800 Baht for a Multi. It looks like this. Assuming you haven't already got one.

When I asked the question I knew I was wrong but never mind, was thinking something might have changed:

But below my new retirement she stamped re- entry visa which was confusing

That looks like a warning that you need a re-entry permit if you want to leave the country and not lose your current extension. It is not a re-entry permit.

Confirmed just got the other half to translate: Its a warning that if you leave the country and do not obtain the re-entry permit then you lose your retirement extension

Nice of them to print it in Thai.

My last extension from Khorat was printed in English in big letters.

Bangkok has it it English and uses the correct terminology (not a visa):

RE-ENTRY PERMIT MUST BE MADE BEFORE

LEAVING THE KINGDOM, OTHERWISE YOUR STAY

PERMIT WILL NOT BE VALID ON YOUR RETURN.

It could be very mis-leading to some !!!!!!

Is there any time limit to how long you can stay out of Thailand on Re-entry permit, example,I may soon have to go back as my father is very ill,I am on a 1 year extension (Thai Wife) and already have my single re-entry permit, but I have no idea how long I will be gone for,1week,1 month or possibly even longer,I don't what to return to be told Iv been gone to long and have to start all over again.

Posted

Until the date on the re-entry permit (your current permitted to stay until date). As long as you return before that date you can use any remaining time.

Posted

So long as you return before the expiry of your extension (and the re-entry permit) then you should have no problem.

Obviously, once you go past that date all is cancelled and you have to start over :)

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Posted

No, as long as you return before the exoiry date of your permission to stay date. otherwise you will have to start the whole visa process all over again.
