United States government has admitted for the first time that it had a secret jail in Thailand where suspected al-Qaeda operatives were flown in to be interrrogated, including being subjected to "waterboarding".

Federal prosecutors revealed the details in documents submitted to a court in New York as part of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union. Prosecutors also revealed that 92 videotapes made and stored in Thailand of the questionable interrogation techniques had been personally ordered to be destroyed by the then head of the CIA, Jose A Rodriguez Jr.

I guess this provides some justification for all the cries of indignation over criticism from the west (US in particular) about Thailand's treatment of Rohingya. Afterall, they had a deal...although I doubt Jolie was in on the loop. My apologies to Wai Wai for earlier posts.

But Thai authorities were quick to deny the reports.

Supreme Commander Gen Ruengroj Mahasaranont said the ABC News report was "just fiction" and "exaggerated".

A statement was issued by the Foreign Ministry saying: "Our investigations with relevant government agencies reveal that there have been no such secret prisons in Thailand."

The air force's Civil Affairs Directorate said foreign agencies had never been allowed to use air force bases for "any secret operations". Only some official military activities like joint military exercises were allowed, the directorate's statement said.

"There is no fact in the unfounded claims," government spokesman Surapong Suebwonglee said at the time.

AGAIN, Thailand is caught for lying.

No. They said they were no secret prisons. They knew about them so they were not secret were they?

Not in the least bit suprized to hear that.

Anyone have any idea just where in Thailand this "prison" was located - other than "in" one of the USA embassy buildings/properties.

Uncle Sams embassy in Thailand is one of its largest missions in the world (if you include all the properties - not just the main compound) - there are loads of places detainees could have been consealed.other than providing a way in/out of the country, airports just attract attention.

Someone told me that ultimately most of the detainees landed up at Deigo Garcia - they just never knew it themselves, and neither did anyone else, because the only people who ever get anywhere near Deigo Garcia are the airforce and spook community folk.

Pattaya looks a bit like a prison.... or is that a garbage dump? :o

Well it would not qualify as a prison by UK standards. Not all the rooms have WiFi and not all the cell blocks have a swimming pool, gym, restaurant and social club. But I believe all "guests" get their conjugal rights so it's almost there.

And if they (US operatives) were secretly holding terrorists and "interrogating" them "SO WHAT?!"

The spooks need every method they have to get information and try to prevent more bombings and other blatant atrocities.

The torture should be in front of the Muslim extremists so they know we mean business. They don't hesitate to video a beheading now do they.

Americans WANT to be better than that. That is WHY we made a change in management. Also, most experts think the best method to get the best info is NOT torture.

I cannot find anything on the BKK Post link that pertains to this.

Not sure about timing, but Obama is not afraid to smear the Bush administration with their dirty crimes. Shining the spotlight on Bush's shit.

Well tha Thais are strongly denying this charge.

Bangkok post article today.

Army chief Anupong Paojinda reiterated Wednesday that there are no US secret jails in Thailand where suspected al-Qaeda operatives are flown in to be interrogated.

His response came after the US government has admitted the existance of the secret jail in Thailand where it subjected prisoners to interrogation techniques, which are claimed by the Washington Post and ABC News as illegal under the Geneva Conventions.

"I can confirm you that there is no such place in Thailand," he told reporters. "I can take my post on the line that such place does not exist."

Who do we believe?

Cheers, Rick

Its not like they were sawing their heads off or anything, I think they were just trying to find out where they were getting all those virgins. Im not a bush fan but this so called change of management is destroying the economy, obama is quickly running out of people to blame for the mess.
