Re the high price of imported beers, I don't think it is true that the bar owners are making a high profit by selling at 160 baht or more.

In the bar that I own in Sukhumvit 1 Plaza, I sell about 15 different imported beers. But the profit I make on each sale is exactly the same as for the sale of local Thai beers. And the retail price ends up around 160 baht (or more if it's a Belgian beer or Guinness).

There are high import taxes to pay on these beers, and the price before tax is clearly higher than for a local beer, so 160 baht is absolutely a 'fair' price for the landlord/lady to charge.

I make more on a large Chang ( I sell for ฿55) than I do on Budweiser ( I sell for ฿125) and I make even less on Guinness.(฿190)

^ I know in Bangkok, for draught Guinness the pubs make about 70B a pint. I'm actually surprised that Guinness is that cheap 'cos the import taxes are extortionate (unless you know someone, *nudge, nugde - wink, wink*).

yesterday in hong kong and most beers around hk$35-75, multiply by 5.3, you'd have the baht price :D

It came, it saw, it conquered.

Its official, we now have a decent pint in Thailand.

Actually it's funny you should say that..........when I first sold Chang in my shop in U.K..........'Thai Superstores of Ramsgate'........a lot of people said "At last a good forgein beer in the U.K."

It's all a question of how easy things are to get I think. That's why I imported all thoser Real Ales from England. Pity they didn't sell too well. I had to give them away in the end.
