I went to the Chiang Mai Indian consulate and the clerk said they were not authorized to transfer the visa to my new passport. She also said she "thought" that I can only transfer my visa to my new passport where I got it originally. IOM she did not sound very sure. I am not planning to go back to USA for a very long time, so am I stuck with carrying both passports when going to India or is what she told me inaccurate?

Btw I am going to India next week.

I had the same problem with a 5 year resident visa. I had to carry both passports untill my visa expired, and I could get a new one entered in my current passport. :o

My Thai wife has had to carry TWO passports for lots of years, the timing of issuance of a 10-year U.S. visa just didn't quite match up with expiration of the Thai passport it was in.

The 10-year visa is not transfered to your new passport, you just need to carry both with you on trips to the U.S., show both at Immigration, NOT A PROBLEM, it works.
