I have a Non-Imm B visa which was extended in July 2008 for 1yr as I am working here so I am due to go to immigration again in July 2009 to apply for another 1yr extension. But there have been many reports lately that some immigration offices are not granting extensions to Non-Imm B visas for teachers without a Teachers License so I wondered if anyone knows what would happen in this situation...Immigration refuse to extend my visa because I don't have a TL or temporary TL (my school have said I WILL have a temporary TL before July but I am planning for the worst, after all TIT) so I decide to apply for an extension based on marriage. I am aware 400k baht should be deposited in a Thai bank account at least 60 days before an application is made but in this situation it won't have been and I don't want to arrange that now as the exchange rate is so <deleted> and I have been told I will have a temporary TL in time anyway. Would the immigration officer grant a shorter extension while I arranged for the funds to be transferred or would they say cheerio, you have to leave?

Any advice greatly appreciated

If married to a Thai you can get a 60 day extension, without any problem.

As to the temporary teachers license, it takes about 2 to 3 weeks to get one. Note that currently only a few offices require you to have the TL.

Thanks Mario, I'd heard the same but at the immigration office I have to go to they have sometimes asked for a TL and on other occasions they have given an extension without one! Re the 60 day extension, is that just a one off extension while the applicant is arranging for the necessary funds for a 1yr extension or do they grant as many 60 day extensions as you want?

From Police Order 2008.

2.24 In the case of an alien

visiting a Thai spouse or child:

Permission

will be granted for a period of not more than 60 days at a time

(1) Proof of relationship.

(2) In the case of a spouse, their marital relationship shall be de

jure (legitimate) and de facto.

It is only a one off. Although it does not make that clear.

So once my current extension expired if I didn't meet the new requirements for another extension by being employed here (no TL) or didn't have 400k in the bank for an extension based on marriage my Non-Imm B would be cancelled and the best I could hope for would be a 60 day visa and then during those 60 days I would need to apply for another Non-Imm O or B? Lets hope my school do as they have promised and get me a temporary TL before July. Life is so exciting (uncertain?) living here!
