Had a hotmail account for years, just never use it these days, but still get the odd mail there so check it every so often.

Opened hotmail this morning, last checked for mail on the 20th, today there are 158 emails......

154 all say the same but to different addresses checked about 12 of them

Delivery Status Notification (Failure)‏ From: <img id="P___396462666" webimdisplaystyle="inline" style="display: none;"> [email protected]

so how is it hotmail think I sent 154 emails over the last 10 days when I did not even open the account?

Use genuine Visa Ultimate set on auto updates so have all the latest updates, Firewall is ON

Use Windows Defender

Use Avast Pro Antivirus, auto updates every day, with auto online scanner

Use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Use Advanced SystemCare Pro

All run every day

Somebody hacked your Hotmail account? Had this happen a couple of months back, changed password and everything was OK (except that I got banned from some forums and ticked a lot of people as the guys who hacked my account used it to send spam).

Propably virus messages trying to get you open some attachment or some web page. So not coming from Hotmail even if they get mentioned. Read some time ago on some virus that was made to look like delivery notifications etc...

Good point but I trust it can be SPAM as well - not actually a virus. The "failed delivery" trick is used very often to get your attention as it seems to bypass some SPAM filters.

I did not open the files in the mail, then ticked all and sent to Junk folder then deleted. will look again in a few days.
