Hi all,

The new Order of the Royal Thai Police Headquarters No.777/2551, issued on 25 November 2008 at point 2.18 6th paragraph says explicitly:

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

A couple of days ago I've been to the Phuket Immigration Office where I've been told that the money must be deposited 3 months prior the application, although during the first month the applicant can use it for other purposes.

Anybody out there knows if this is a correct procedure?

Thanks :o

What does that mean? That the level only has to be 400k for the last two months but account has to be three months old?

Was your application your first?

Requiring more than two months seems to be reported often - so if they provided any more details would be most interested to lean them.

This is weird to me too, my bank account is 10 years old, I don't normally keep more than 200000 baht in it, on 4th of march I ordered a transfer from abroad to reach over 400k, I did that in order to apply for the annual extension on May but apparently I would have to wait until June.

My concern is that my Non Immigrant O Multiple entry says that it has to be utilized before 26 May 2009 and even if I can stay up to 23 August (if I leave and back on 26 may) I'm afraid that they will not accept an application based on an expired visa.

This is not my first annual extension, but it is over 3 years that I don't get one, so I believe it is just like the first time and that probably I have to show up with my wife and a witness, actually I asked them for a list of paperwork required for the application and I've been told that they don't have one... amazing!

Suggestions are welcome dear Lopburi3 :o

You can get a 60 day extension based on marriage with a Thai national and then apply again for an anual extension of stay.

2.24 In the case of an alien

visiting a Thai spouse or child:

Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 60 days at a time

Criteria:

(1) Proof of relationship.

(2) In the case of a spouse, their marital relationship shall be de jure (legitimate) and de facto.

Documents needed:

1. Application form

2. Copy of applicant’s passport

3. Copy of household registration certificate

4. Copy of national ID card of the person having Thai nationality

5. Copy of a marriage certificate or copy of a birth certificate

1. You have no problem using an expired visa - the permitted to stay time is what you extend. So make a trip out mid-May and then apply for extension of stay last part of July.

2. You always have to have wife with you to sign paperwork and be interviewed. On pickup of final extension stamp the next month the wife would not have to be with you.

You will need to take.

Your Wife for interview. Her ID Card and House Registration. Marriage Certificate. Your Passport. Letter from bank showing deposit plus Bank Book updated to show the same balance. Yes. the law does say 2 months but some offices are insisting on 3 . (Make it up as they go along)

You will need copies of the above, some want 1 copy , some want 2.

Photos of you and the Wife in and around the house. Wedding photos if you have any. A map showing the way to the house.

You will be given a 30 day under consideration stamp. Go back in 30 days and get the remainder of your 12 months.

This is a big relief... let's wait July then!

I got this 60 days extension once, yet I did not know that I would be still eligible for an annual extension after its expiration, good to know it.
