Us Entry On Thai Visa Expr In 7 Months

Featured Replies

I'm wondering if anyone has entered the US on a Thai visa that is expiring in 7 months. The stays is scheduled to be for 3 months, so my gf's thai passport will not be valid 6 months beyond the intended stay. do i need to get her a new passport before we go? she will be traveling alone.....and will be entering the US at a different port of entry than her final destination (ie, connecting domestic flight), so I want to make sure she isn't going to run into any problems. She's come to the US before. She will be entering on a tourist visa.

Not a problem to ENTER the U.S. on even the day prior to the EXPIRATION DATE of the visa.

Could be a problem with her Thai passport expiring so why not just get a new passport?

NOT A PROBLEM to have the U.S. visa in the expired or canceled passport, she'll just need to carry both passports with her and show at airline check-in at Swampy, and at the U.S. immigration inspection line. My wife has been doing this for several years now, U.S. 10-year visa in the expired passport, she just carries both.

I wrote too fast...her Thai Passport is expiring in 7 months...not the Visa..the visa is 10 years..

i want to know if I need to get her a new passport before I go. I save 7+ months on her next passport....if I can postpone getting her a passport until after we come back from the US.

Got some sample dates there?

For example, your wife wants to stay in the U.S. for three months, right? Will her passport have six (6) months remaining on the date of arrival in the U.S.?? That's the "requirement" altho it can be bent somewhat.

If not, then I'd recommend getting a new passport and just carrying the two of them along, new one and old one with the 10-year visa. Save making explanations, and possible denial of bording, at airline check-in, Thai Immigration at departure, and ICE at arrival in the U.S.

get a new passport. It costs 1000 baht, so not expensive.

You can still use the visa in the old passport to enter, while getting stamped in on the new passport. Done it a number of times myself, so unless the rules changed, better better be safe than sorry.

her passport expires on 23 december 2009

arriving in us may 4th

departing august 19th

so...i'd really apperciate information on this..today my girlfriend went to Udon, and the passport agency would not issue her a new passport because her index finder is CUT (she cut it cutting some worms or something)...

so..now it would actually be benefical if someone could confirm she will get entry to the US until august 19th, when her passport expires on 23 december...

i read on a website, that the us has an agreement with several coutries including thailand...to "auto" extend visa's for 6 months...meaning it shoudln't be a problem...but i'd like confirmation from a TV party :o

Is a "TV Party" a real responsible source of info? I'd hope so, at least 50% or more of the time, anyway.

In any case, I'd bet she'd be OK with travel on the dates you've shown.

FYI, my wife and I entered at Seattle 4-5 years back when she had only seventeen (17) days left on her passport, we'd planned on a 14 day stay. The U.S. Immigration folks chopped her in for 16 days, and sort of apologized for not being able to do the "normal" six-month chop.
