Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum. I'm planning on going to Thailand sometime soon and get an English teacher job. I've got a few questions about Thailand. It'd be great if someone can help me out.

1. I'm an Australian Citizen. I've read in some places I don't need to get a Tourist Visa as long as I don't stay in Thailand for more than 30 days. But I've also read elsewhere that I still need to apply for one even if I'm an Australian Citizen. Can someone confirm which is true?

2. I have a mobile phone purchased in Australia. If I buy a Thailand Sim card would it work in my mobile or do I need to buy a Thailand mobile?

3. I have short black hair (male). I normally dye it with some blonde streaks on all sides so my hair looks black with a some blonde in it. If I apply for teaching positions in private language schools, government and private high school or universities, would they mind if I had the blonde streaks in my hair. Is dying your hair like having tattoos in Thailand?

(EDIT: I'm 24 years old Asian if you're curious)

4. I have a laptop bought in Australia. It uses 240V 50Hz. Thailand voltage is 220V 50Hz. Can I use my laptop in Thailand?

5. When are Thailand High School and University holidays on?

6. Can anyone suggest some good private language schools in Bangkok to teach at? I prefer ones with lots of holidays (not including national holidays as working at any school would get you these) and hopefully with little or no weekend work. So far I only know of AUA that gives you a week break after every 6 weeks teaching. Unfortunately, they don't pay for those 1 week holidays. Better than nothing though.

7. I heard Thailand is really dangerous to travel by yourself. Can someone expand on this?

Thanks.

Jason.

You maybe luck enough to get advice from here but I doubt it from this post...have to wait and see.

i suggest you ask your questions in the Teaching section -normally this section is full of humour - we'll wait and see

1) dont know

2) yes buy card at airport/shops and it will work

3) i worked with an Asian / Aussie who also had streaks - never any issues -

4) laptop will work fine - just protect it with a surge protector at the main socket

5) dont know

6) check out the teaching section

7) yes its dangerous if :-

you are a lonely Italian

you are a property developer

you are against all night raves

ride bikes drunk

have a fight with copper

i'm sure there is more info that other posters can/will share with you
