hi there,

does anyone know these wonderful flowers "dok un chan"? I drank the tea at the spa in the Hilton Millenium Hotel some time ago, chilled, served with honey and lemon. It has a dark blue colour and it changes into purple when you add some lemon juice. It is so refreshing, and apparently it is a very effective anti-oxidant.

I would love to buy these flowers (in dried form of course) but the problem is, I cannot find them anywhere! Siam Paragon didn't have it, I wonder who might sell them in BKK.

I would be grateful if anyone can tell me the name of the shops or websites where I can order. Thank you in advance!

Amazing what a Google search can find.

Here is a letter/description from a person who apparently had this Tea in the Orangery (or Orangerie) at Siam Paragon in Bangkok.

Here is a LINK to the web site:

It is made from Butterfly Pea Flowers (or Dok Anchan in Thai, it also has a very embarrassing English name, Clitoria flower) which is commonly used as a food dye.

This drink is served together with small jar of lime juice and pandan leaves flavoured syrup. The syrup is obviously for adding sweetness to it, while the lime juice performs magic.

When the deep indigo coloured tea made from pea flowers meets the juice of lime, it instantly turns into bright red purple colour. The drink itself has the slightest trace of ordinary bean flavour. The lime juice not only changes it colour, also adds flavour to the drink. Butterfly pea flower tea could be served either hot or cold, both with lime juice and syrup. However, cold one is much more fun for you could play with the colour changing magic easier through a tall glass.

Not sure where you'd find it in Bangkok, but possibly in some high end herbal tea shop. I guess try in the Siam Paragon first.

thank you for your comment! I have read that blog, that is THE tea! but missed on where she had it.... as far as the food court of Paragon is concerned, they did not have the tea. It is often mixed with other tea (green tea etc) but I want the flowers PURE :D once I had a website of the tea shop who sold the tea, but lost it.... cannot remember who gave me the address... :D

in case you ever have a chance to drink this tea, have it really chilled with honey & lime juice. It is really amazing! It reduces choresterol and has a strong anti-oxidant effect :D

best,

try this: http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/100983624/Butterfly_Pea_Green_Tea.html

I'm trying to buy jiao gu lan tea from a store in Bangkok. I've bought online. One v. good quality - Jiaogulan Tea Wholesaler: Consumer Products - the other very poor, with lots of bitter-tasting stalks, more like hay than anything. Also want to buy black tea to make in a pot. There used to be a store at Siam Discovery, not sure if it's still there. I guess the 5-star hotels are the best bet?
