I just received from the Thai embassy in Washington DC a double entry tourist visa. They returned my application fee of $70 with a note that said all foreign nationals will be exempted from tourist fee from 5 March to 4 June 2009. I knew that single entry tourist visas were free but I had not heard that double entry were also free.

The reaction by Thai consulates to the order by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to issue tourist visas free of charge until 4 June 2009 was mixed. Some consulates issue only single-entry tourist visas and refuse double-entry tourist visas even when payment is offered, some others, eg Vientiane, give also the double-entry visa free of charge. Now, Washington DC can be added to this list.

And Seoul can be taken off the list. I just applied for a multiple entry TV and was told they are only issuing singles. Bit of a nuisance but I'll just have to do my first upcoming entry on a 30 exempt stamp and invoke the visa when I get back from my Viet Nam trip. I suppose you can't complain about a freebie but it would be a pain in the proverbial to take time out just to get another visa.

Were you required to show the following, per their website? Thanx.

- A copy of round-trip ticket or itinerary paid in full

- A copy of recent bank statement or evidence of adequate finance

($500 per person and $1,000 per family)

I applied my mail and included copies of all the documents mentioned. Had no problems even though my airline ticket was showing my return trip was 148 days after arrival. I also stated on application form that i was going to stay for 148 days.

I know i have to extend after 60 days or extend to 90 days and then leave the country.
