Four red shirts get a slap on the wrist for blocking Din Daeng traffic

Published on May 19, 2009

Four red shirts were convicted yesterday for violating the emergency rule by involving in the blockade of traffic at Din Daeng but had their jail term suspended for one year.

The Kwang Court of Northern Bangkok, with jurisdiction over minor crimes, handed down a guilty verdict against the four for refusing to disperse after being instructed by the anti-riot forces.

The four are Pairoj Ngamwiset, Thongsuk Deesui, Koson Theerathamporn and Chan Kuanmoon. They were arrested as part of the red-shirt crowd during the anti-riot operation at Din Daeng.

The magistrate court cited their guilty plea as ground for leniency.

In the original sentencing, the four were punished with a six-month jail term each and a fine of Bt10,000. After factoring it leniency, the punishment was cut in half. Since the convicts had no prior record, their jail term was suspended after paying the fine.

I believe that those who brought the gasoline trucks and buses in and those who shot Nang Lerng people were not 100% real reds. Photos taken that day showed that they looked like the yellows and the blues when they wore black, covered faces and had weapons.

Please tell us how a real red dress like so we can replicate it next time we try to fake a red riot.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for asking. A real red normally

1- does not cover face. He doesn't intend to kill people and gives police a headache trying to guess who

2- does not have knifes, swords (Samurai's swords?), ping pong bombs, golf sticks, condoms, krathom leaves, bottles of human sh_t or p__, nail fences, car tyres, molotov cocktails, slingshots, fire extinguishers, bent nails to damage tyres, guns, nice wooden sticks (not temporarily made wooden sticks like taking from a plant).

3- doesn't look like a gangster but looks charming and relax

4- wears red and has red cloth reading "Miss Thaksin", "Love Thaksin", "Red all over the land", "Truth Today", "We vote No", "No need to pay. I come myself", "Against dictatorship"

That's about appearance. The actions are:

1- he does not kill people knowing he has no back up PAD and the blues have

2- he does not cause havoc knowing he will go to jail as fast

3- he does not cause problems to religions and regular people because he wants to be loved and understood

4- he listens to the red leaders. Jatupon said that the fake reds released air from a tv station 3 reporter's car tyres. When Jatupon asked them to stop, they didn't stop and didn't look like they know Jatupon. The real reds often smile and hug Jatupon.

Koo.

All you red pack are is a bunch of criminals, thugs, law-breakers, murderers and whatnot. I've had it with your senseless defending of that scum!

I could say the exact same about the yellows, all they do is sit in front of stages, listen to Luk Thung music and shake their hand clappers when someone speaks on stage!

So who killed the people then? Random strange "come on lets kill someone" elements? Nope, Koo, it was YOUR GANG OF RED MOBSTERS. Paid by your paymaster Thaksin! With direct instructions phoned in from Dubai, none less, because he's too coward to get his sorry @ss here!!

Can't wait for the day he's six feet under and people like you finally wake up.

Go to that corner over there, have a sook, flail your arms about etc, get it all out of your system, and come back when you are prepared to make some sort of reasonable statement.

Yeah.

I have made all sorts of reasonable statements only to be completely ignored by Koo. She is so blind in love with Thaksin that even if he would kill her mother with his bare hands she would still defend his actions, and those of his red gang.

EVERYONE has seen just how peace-loving the reds are, right? It was on television around the entire world. Yet Koo keeps going on and on about what angels they really are, and of course, all that we saw on television weren't reds, they were just lookalikes. Yeah, my @ss.

Hey Koo, you and your "double standards", what about those that stole the buses and set them on fire, anyone in jail yet? Just how much cost one of the orange buses? Does it cost more than a common bathroom towel? Then please explain how come that a 79-year old lady in Pattaya spend several days in jail for allegedly stealing a towel (!) from a bar, even though another person actually confessed of having put it in the grandmother's handbag??

THAT's double standards.

A real red:

1- does not cover face, except under Thaksin mask. Real red face is never red - reds know no shame

2- denies ever carrying knifes, swords (Samurai's swords?), ping pong bombs, golf sticks, condoms, krathom leaves, bottles of human sh_t or p__, nail fences, car tyres, molotov cocktails, slingshots, fire extinguishers, bent nails to damage tyres, guns, nice wooden sticks (not temporarily made wooden sticks like taking from a plant, he can admit carrying those).

3- looks charming and relax when being photographed

4- wears red and has red cloth reading "Miss Thaksin", "Love Thaksin", "Red all over the land", "Truth Today" etc. Real red will never wear unapproved garments.

That's about appearance. The actions are:

1- he does not kill people, yellows are not people. Period.

2- he does not cause havoc knowing he will go to jail, he cause havoc when he thinks he can get away with it

3- he does not cause problems to religions and regular people because he wants to be loved and understood, if he is not loved and understood, it's their problem and real red is always ready to correct it, by force if necessary

4- he listens to the red leaders and no one else, red mind must stay unpolluted

The reds shut down a hotel for 30 minutes and blocked some intersections.

The yellows commandeered 2 airports and threatened to sabotage the water system, took over Government house, shot cops, kidnapped and paraded red shirt people thru their rally.

I don't support Thaksin but jobs were plentifull and the stock market soared when he was in office.

Just a coincidence Thailand has spiraled downhill ever since the coup?

Another subject I'd like to addres would get me banned.

Thaksin is of course totally responsible, for the global economic-boom, and its effects on the local Thai economy, and the military caused the global economic crisis, and its effects here. :D

Why don't they just make him head of the World Bank or IMF or UN, and solve all the world's problems, I wonder ? I mean, instead of just setting him to solve the investment-problems, of a tiny country like Nicaragua ? :)

Hey Koo, you and your "double standards", what about those that stole the buses and set them on fire, anyone in jail yet? Just how much cost one of the orange buses?

Several days after the Songkran in Blood, a Pro-Abhisit tv channel interviewed someone. He said the buses which were burnt have been used in years so he could not estimate the cost, but it could probably around 1 million Baht each.

So we're back to the bus subject. That day I saw many soldier trucks running on BKK streets. If I'm not wrong they said on tv that more than 4,000 soldiers were there and were on many streets.

The reds could not bring their pickups to supply foods to the protesters. How could they bring 52 buses in and burnt more than 30? Jatupon said the reds might hijack some buses but not all.

Remember the video we saw on tv that a man wearing red driving a bus and soldier dragged him down to the street and used a gun to hit his head? That was on free tv and on youtube. Jatupon said that man is the bus driver. Bus owner asked him to wear red to drive the bus back but he was not lucky being beaten by soldiers.

I wonder they same that why things that the reds do are judged quickly and burning buses are quiet. "Done by fake reds" is my answer.

Where did you get that info?

Don't tell me you read the local papers. I know you're not that gullible.

I'm curious about the remark "he manipulated the stock market".

I do remember him listing his companies in the early 90s, launching satellites, information services, real estate.

Wasn't he listed as Thailands richest man by Forbes long before he was PM?

Why does Koo refer to a real red as "he", btw? Is it some other feature of a real red?

Because "he" is understood. Writing "he or she or half he half she" is too much.

"Man-made" doesn't indicate "made by men" or "not made by women or other genders".

No. It occurred later...

Thaksin could very well be Forbes #1 easily with $6.5 billion, which is almost double what Forbes says Chaleo has as #1 with $3.5 billion....

Government must hit Thaksin where it hurts most

Let's deal with the problems at hand and explore how we should deal with Thaksin to prevent his attempts to derail the new charter and cause other political troubles.

No doubt Thaksin is more than angry after the freezing of more than 65 Billion Baht of his assets. That's just peanuts, as we know that he has at least 200 Billion Baht *that would be the 6.5 Billion Dollars I was referring to that would easily make him Thailand's richest man* stashed abroad in various places, such as in savings accounts and investments in funds and securities through nominees here and abroad.

Local papers are privately owned and reflect opinions of their readers and advertisers, Thai print media is/was considered one of the freest in South East Asia.

Or do you mean we should read clueless ramblings of "international" reporters who can't order somtam if their lived dependent on it? What makes you think they know this country? What makes you trust their reports?

I was here in 2003 and Thailand's stock market (SET)went up 103% that year. Thaksin has several Companies listed so that would explain the wealth no? I don't think it was just his companies that did well. The entire nation prospered I recall.

It would be interesting to compare the average stock market returns with Thaksins Companies.

Did they really out perform the average or have we been fed a bunch of propaganda?

I think the root of the problem is the Bangkok people(wealthy) are racist and can't stand the country people(black) having an equal vote.

Nope.

He won one single election and lied to the court just days later when it came to declaring his asset5s (because if he hadn't lied he would not have become prime minister!) and we all know his "honest mistake".

The next couple of elections he won because he paid every person up country 200 Baht in cash to vote for him. Nope, not election promises as all parties do, outright cash-for-votes. Which is why TRT was finally disbanded for election fraud.

When he was "thrown from office at gunpoint" he wasn't even in the country!! Get your facts straight. The coup happened when Thaksin was in the U.S.A. and at that time he wasn't even PM but "caretaker PM"!!

@all who dare to read:

It was the REDS that murdered people. Not the yellows, blues or whites. So far the only party (as in "group") that has been killing were pro-Thaksin red shirt people. Yes, the yellows had guns, too, but they didn't kill anyone!

Regards....

Here's some additional information on just what Thaksin's shenanigans did for his and his family's net worth.

**REFERENCE: The Nation SEPT 26 2006:

Members of Shinawatra-Wongsawat families expand businesses to take all

Thaksin's close relative, who became rich overnight, included his sister, Yaowapha Wongsawat. She set up M Link or M Link Asian Corporation Plc, which is a main business of her family. The firm generated annual revenue worth several billions of baht for the Wongsawat family.

M Link has expanded its businesses by buying stakes in several firms, and thus allowing the Wongsawat family to expand its business empire to other businesses on top of mobile phone selling business. Key firms, whose major shares had been bought by the Wongsawat family, are companies which compete for government projects.

The M Link empire of Yaowapha set up several more daughter companies, including Telemax Asia Corporation, M Shop Mobile Ltd and Trunk Radio, which won a project worth Bt226 million from the Aeronautical Radio of Thailnd Ltd. M Link also invested in Portal Net Co Ltd to bid for telecom projects from government agencies and private firms.

Among key projects it has won was a project to lease computers and software solution worth Bt3.192 billion to Provincial Electricity Authority and a project to provide public telephones with coin and debit card slots to TOT Plc.

The Wongsawat family also bought stakes of Win Coast Industrial Park, which operates logistics business and receives support from the government.

Moreover, the Wongsawat family also joined hand with Wilailak family, the owner of Samart Group. The two families bought 50 shares of ASCON Construction Plc, which announced its policy to bid for government's mega projects. It aims to win electric train project worth several hundreds of billions of baht and a Bt24 billion worth project of the Treasury Department to build a government centre in Chaeng Wattana area. ASCON is also interested to be a sub-contractor of Shino-Thai to build the Airport Rail Link worth Bt12 billion.

Beside, Shinnisha Wongsawat, a daughter of Yaowapha, and Phayup Shinawatra, the brother of Thaksin, received quotas to buy shares worth Bt500 million from Strip Mill, a major steel maker of Somsak Leesawattrakul. Strip Mill received a hair-cut debt reduction worth Bt56.55 million from its debt burden of Bt63.857 billion by the Assets Management Corporation, and bringing down its debt to only Bt7.3 billion after it provided shares subscription quotas Shinnisha and Phayup as well as selling shares at cheap prices to relatives of Thai Rak Thai politicians.

The Wongsawat family also bought shares of Traffic Corner, a media content firm which bids for projects from government agencies. Eventually, the Wongsawat family sold a part of its Traffic Corners shares to the Wilailak family.

Traffic Corner won a concession from the Public Relations Department to produce TV programmes for NBC cable TV channel, which is aired free of charge for the first six months. The department regards that NBC is a trial channel. Traffic Corner also won concessions of three cable channels from Channel 9 as well.

Traffic Corner also won a concession from the Tourism Authority of Thailand to install advertising media on airport trolleys in four airports for three years. The project is worth about Bt100 million.

In short, during the term of the Thaksin government, the Wongsawat family has depended on the political power to expand its business empire to have major shares in nearly all of business sectors, like what Shin Corp had done.

Phayup Shinawatra, Thaksin's brother, is another Shinawatra family member, who joined the operations in taking over Thailand.

Phayup is often suspected of manipulating share prices and the Securities and Exchange Commission always keeps a close watch on him. Shares of firms, which he has bought, often saw irregular movements of their prices while he was holding the shares. Such firms included Picnic, Eastern Wire and EMC.

Phayup was suspected of helping share prices of firms with political affiliations to go up higher, compared with shares of firms without political affiliations.

A group of businesses owned by Prayuth Mahakijsiri, a financier of Thai Rak Thai, also received a lot of benefits from the government. Thai Film Industry of Mahakijsiri family bought the stakes of Thai Copper Industry, which benefited from debt restructuring approved by the Assets Management Corporation. It was given a debt reduction worth Bt9.377 billion from the total amount of debt worth Bt11.833 billion, leaving a debt of only Bt2.456 billion.

Moreover, the government's policy to increase the price of cold-rolled steel from Bt88 per kilogramme to Bt105.94 per kg allowed the firm to have a profit worth Bt1.395 billion in 2003, compared with its previous loss of Bt1.233 billion.

Thai Nox Co Ltd of Mahakijsiri family also benefited from the government's policy when the Thaksin administration increased the import tariff of cold-rolled stainless steel from five to 15 per cent. The tariff hike prevented foreign rivals from competing in Thailand and allowed Thai Nox, the only manufacturer of cold-rolled stainless steel, to benefit from the sale in the country.

In 2005, Prayuth Mahakijsiri became one of the top ten businessmen with highest values of share prices under ownership. The share prices of his firms shot up by 76 per cent with a total value of Bt3.194 billion.

Meanwhile, the Jungrungreangkit family has become rich from holding stakes in PTT Plc and from holding stakes in firms which saw their prices climbing up fast, such Picnic and Eastern Wire.

The Jungrungreangkit family carries out businesses of making parts for vehicles and motorcycles. The Jungrungreangkit family together with the Jurangkoon family enjoyed benefit from the government's policy to turn Thailand to Detroit of Asia. The Jurangkoon family has a lot of businesses under its group, including Thai Summit, which produces parts for Toyota.

Following the inking of FTA contract between Thailand and Australia, the automobile and parts manufacturing business of the Jungrungreangkit family was the second group to benefit after the telecom empire of Thaksin. And the group, which stands to lose most, is the group of over 300,000 cattle farmers for whom the Thaksin government did not provide any measure to help them at all.

Anant Asavabhokin, president of Land and House Plc, is another financier of the Thai Rak Thai. He is a close friend of Boonklee Pungsiri of Shin Corp since the two studied in the Chulongkorn University's Faculty of Engineering.

During the term of Thaksin govenment, Anant became one of the richest businessmen in term of values of shares in the stock market. Anant became richer by Bt2.588 billion or 21 per cent compared with 2003 and the Asavabhokin family climbed up to the second richest family after the Shinawatra family in term of share prices.

The Asavabhokin family was a graphic example that share prices of firms with connections to politicians in power would see their value increased.

Anant also received a license to operate the Land and House Bank. Moreover, Anant was entrusted by the government to sit on a committee to supervise power pricing and policy after Shin Corp became interested in investing in electricity businesses by setting nominal firms to invest in such businesses.

The Chearavanont family benefited from the government's cover-up of bird-flu spread in Thailand, allowing the family to continue its chicken meat exports for a while. But the cover-up caused the spread to worsen, causing deaths among Thais.

Businesses of the Chearavanont also expanded a lot as allies of the businesses of politicians in the Thaksin government. For example, UBC was allowed to have advertisements and chicken and prawn exports were also benefited from FTA contracts. The family also won concessions to provide seedlings, such as rubber seedlings, to the Agriculture Ministry. Beside, the telecom business of the family expanded a lot especially after Shin Corp was sold to Temasek Holdings of Singapore.

BANGKOK

SOON AFTER Thaksin Shinawatra's election in 2001 as prime minister of Thailand, international journalists, local academics and watchdog groups began sounding alarms: They decried his record on human rights, his conflicts of interest, his government's lack of transparency, and his handling of the press. Pointing to an enormous personal empire that controls telecommunications and television, and to his paternalistic authoritarian tendencies, they saw him as a combination of Italy's tycoon-turned-politician Silvio Berlusconi and Malaysia's notorious former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.

Indeed, last year alone Thaksin's family fortune increased 76 per cent, while the country's stock market fell.

I would clarify the below in that the reference should have read Richest Stockholder in Thailand, not richest person. Also, that Pingthongtha is Thaksin's daughter, not son.

The richest man in Thailand is a young man named Pinthongtha Shinawatra. He is worth 18.03 billion baht (about US$450 million). How did he get his money? He got it from his father, Thaksin Shinawatra who had to give it away before he could become the Prime Minister of Thailand.

Other Shinawatra's in the list included:

#2 Thaksin's brother-in-law Bannapot Damapong -- 15.27 billion baht (US$381.75 million)

#4 Thaksin's son Panthongtae Shinawatra -- 11.09 billion baht (US$277.25 million)

#28 Thakin's youngest daughter (still in college, and if I'm not mistaken, has/had a part-time job at McDonalds) 1.42 billion baht (US$35.5 million).

#65 Thaksin's younger sister

#321 Thaksin's wife

Ten leading families with close ties to the government altogether controlled over 40 percent of the market capitalization of the Stock Exchange of Thailand, with over 10 percent held by the prime minister's family alone, [suriyasai Katasila, secretary-general of the Campaign for Popular Democracy] was quoted by the Bangkok Post as saying.

Incidentally, Thaksin personally thrown two journstalists out of the country for saying "wrong" things about him when he was in charge.

Uh just a guess......Thai reporters are under threat of 15 years prison for saying the wrong thing? No?

Remember the FEER article that was ordered off the shelves?

If it was a "headache" back then, I wonder what they'd use to describe it now?

What you are saying is that most people that demonstrated at Songkran, as called upon by Thaksin, by their actions - as they went against your romantic list above - became something else than a Red supporter. You are right, they became criminals. But they still came from the Red camp.

Was everyone that went into the ASEAN summit meeting hotel a fallen out Red too? Someone you don't call Red anymore? Since what they did is illegal...

But it must be nice to have a list of 'if you do this we will be happy for your actions and contributions but if anyone complains we will cll you non-Red'.

Will you be handing them out at the next demonstration?

Lie's is the only thing you can conjure up.

Again, as stated 10 times before, I was at Victory Monument less than an hour before the riots and burning of buses. I had no problem reaching the location. (The problem was getting _through_ it to pick whatever street I wanted with the Taxi.)

To arrive at the location with buses (several of them was there, one was unloading some 30-40 reds as I was inside the round-about itself!) wasn't an issue and neither to get any food-trucks there.

What you post has nothing to do with the real events that happened. Where were YOU when this went down?

Please state, for the record, what your location was.

THAT's double standards.

what you are talking about? towels, pattaya, 79 year old lady?

and the burning buses, who stole them, who set them on fire, are there any arrests, are there culprits caught on tape and identified?

what abou to come up with facts, instead of disrespect forwards koo because she (or that screen name) is a red shirted woman.
