Room and board including nursing service in a private hospital in CM/CR approximately how much does it cost?

Yes I am sure there are degrees but approximately? My Health insurance is coming due and was curious,

or maybe it can not be answered.

Yes I know the one "how long is a piece of string" though entertaining just was looking for a close average

if possible.

I think the price of the room is not the signifigent item. I spent 8 days in a shared thai ward (8 beds) at SuanDork hospital and was charged 35 baht a day for the room and I think 50 baht a day for food (delicious thiai food too). My bill however was 18000 baht. Admittedly about 11000 baht of that was my standard medicine from Australia. You can pay 1500 bah for a room but I think the costs for all tests and medicines and care increases too.

I must say the care was excellent though the physical conditions was not great.

Only 2 places I know from first hand experience are:

Pattaya - Pattaya Memorial - 2005 Bt1500 a day for private room, food extra.

Pattaya - Pattaya International - 2007 around Bt3000 a day in maternity wing including food.

Both were non inclusive of any treatment or medical attention.

Bear in mind that you might need to be hospitalized in Bkk if you require very specialized care.

The top end hospitals in Bkk easily reach the maximum amounts you have lsited here.

I'd advise the maximum coverage, better safe than sorry, and what is the point of having insurance if, when the time comes, you still might not be ab le to afford care in the hospital of your choice?

You make a good point Sheryl. Just, the lower level is a tad better then being self insured. I guess a little peace of mind.

No reason to over do it is my thinking.

Also, because this world wide coverage (except in the USA) they (insurance co) cover themselfs by having a lot higher premiums if you wish to choose and pay, but, wife and I have done our world traveling and if possible only wish to travel in and around Thailand. This is my thinking anyway.

If, as you say, you are going to settle in Thailand may we suggest you choose a Thai based company as they will pay direct to the hospital ?

There are several very good Insurance companies to choose from and Thai Visa Insurance will be happy to help you choose the best plan for you. [email protected]

Cost me 2000b a night for a single room and 1000b for a double in Pramongkutklow the army hospital.

Probably one of the cheaper in BKK. Food 100b extra.

Just a thought on Thailand based insurance. As their life assurance is massively overpriced, is their medical insurance similarly overpriced ?

A specialist western insurance company used to tailoring policies to certain types of countries may be a way to go. Surely they can deal with the top hospitals direct.

First, let me second Sheryl: Good Bangkok private hospitals easily reach and surpass the maximum fees that were quoted. And if you want good care you want to use Bangkok hospitals in many cases (eg cardiac problems or orthopedic surgery) as the standards of medical care in CM are generally a lot lower than in Bangkok. (Yes, i do know of Ram, Lanna and Suandawk.)

Second, a warning to Torrrenova: many hospitals have several price lists (Thais vs non-Thais, residents vs non-residents, insured vs not insured). The most expensive price list is invariably the one for patients with western insurance. A typical mark-up is about 200%.
