When you leave Thailand, does anyone check that you have been making 90 day reports?

I'm asking this because I just made one, but with the extra, unscheduled, Songkran holidays and so on, it took three visits, and I was getting a bit bored with the whole process. First they make a stupid, pointless, time-wasting rule, then they make it virtually impossible for you to obey it. I'm leaving Thailand in a few weeks anyway, and have no need of the services of Immigration before then, so I was tempted to simply forget about the 90 day report this time. If I had done so, do you think that would anyone have picked it up at Swampyboom when I leave?

They don't check at the airport to see if you have done your reports.

No, but they do check when you extend your stay for another year. Friend of ours was totally dismissive of having to do it, despite us telling her each time. When they went to her extend, her and her two kids got fined the maximum allowed (20K each I think - 60K all up). Luckily, they manage to charge back the fine back to her husbands work, and made it seem their fault.

The fine for not reporting is 2,000 Baht. The max. fine for overstay is 20,000 Baht. Maybe she was a bit confused.

I'm curious how they could/would check?

At least in Pattaya, it's a purely manual process with nothing entered in the computer system (at least as far as I can see). There's nothing to stop you simply removing the slip that they staple in your passport during the 90 day report and saying something like, 'Sorry krup, it got torn and fell out', if asked about it. Then how can they check? Go through the endless files of TM47 forms and cross-check dates? Even the Immigration police aren't that bored with their lives, are they?

I met a guy a few months back who's been living here on retirement extensions for 6 or 8 years, I forget, and he claims that he's never done a 90 day report and has never had a problem about it. I'm wondering if this is BS, or is the guy onto something? Are we retirees just a bizarre Thai version of Pavlovian dogs? (Woof, woof!)

The information has been entered into computer system for at least 3 years here in Bangkok and suspect that also applies elsewhere. It may not be done at the same time as processed but it is entered.

Samut Prakan office has the same rule; you can come early but not even one day late. :o

My stamp says: Please keep this slip. Please come again on (date) or before.....

The would say lost slip means you pay the 2000 baht fine.

I have heard stories of people that claim they never make 90 day reports. They are either full of <deleted> or they are leaving the country on a regular basis so the don't have to.

Immigration will ask to see your last 90 day report slip when you go for your extension

I have never done a 90 day report. I am living in Thailand on a Non Imm B Visa since 4 years. I never go to "my" Immigration office and extend Visa there as an extension "costs" 17000 baht (am not kidding) and they are a bunch of incompetent ..... , so I leave the country every year or so. Never had any problem. Never was anybody asking for a "90 day report paper" when I leave the country. What is it good for anyway? They know where I live, it is all over in my WP, Business paper, etc.

If you do not extend your stay you never stay more than 90 days. Right? If you never stay more than 90 days you are not required to file 90 day reports.

Or are you saying you use another office to extend?

Or are you saying you overstay and pay the 20k fine every year or so?

Questions upon question.

I never extended my visa, if that's what you mean. (mainly because the guys at the immigration want to have 17000 Baht for an extension)

My visa history the last 4 years (all non imm :o

4x 1 year multiple reentry (left the country once a year to get new visa in my home country; during my stay in Thailand: border run every 3 month for new stamp)

Last year my passport got stolen

Then: temporary passport with 3 month Visa (in Penang) / Regular Passport with 3 month visa (in Penang)

Now I am going to get a new Non Imm B Visa (one or three years)

I thought the 90 day reporting has to be done anyway, doesn't follow/congruence any extensions you might need?
