Import Tax On Power Tools

Featured Replies

I'm looking to buy on line cordless power tools from Australia and send them over to Thailand.

I understand that i have to pay import tax.

Does anybody know how much the import tax would be.

I believe that for machines the tax would be 40% on the value of the goods.

Before i buy the stuf i would like to how much ( about ) i have to pay.

I'm looking to buy on line cordless power tools from Australia and send them over to Thailand.

Good chance the tools are being manufactured in Thailand for export. And exported.

Now, reversing the flow?

For Power tools you are looking at Duty of 10% of CIF value (this includes the cost of goods, cost of freight and cost of insurance) and VAT of 7% of CIF Value + Duty amount.

For normal hand tools (no power) duty should be 20% and VAT 7%.

Is this 10 import tax and 7 % vat of the paid value according to the bill.

Or do they charge according the sales value in the shops in Thailand.

Sorry but i forgot to ask another question.

Goods over 20.000 baht are they delivered to my home address ?

I read somewhere that those items are hold back in Bangkok.

And that I have to contact customs in my province.

Does anybody know how’s this works or if they deliver it to my house after I pay the import tax in my province.

Here is what I have been doing, I have my daughter ship the item(s), by mail, US Postal Service in my case, the package has her address, last name same as mine and my Thai address, all hand written. The US Customs declaration is filled out, if in your case power tools, that is what would be entered, just "tools" would also be acceptable. In this manner I have yet to be a cause of concern to any Thai authorities and as yet had to pay any duty..

The answer to you last question is yes, I believe you will pay both, each is charged by a different agency.

Very few power tools are made here and those that are are about the same quality as Chinese. The Japanese brands are of good quality and are a fair price, just my experience.
