Hi to everyone!

I have 2 questions, could anyone help me with a piece of advice?

1- a good orthopaedist for a child?

2- where can buy an orthopaedic footwear for a baby girl? (Pattaya, Bangkok)

Thanx!

3 of my children are in orthopedic shoes. After trying out a couple different doctors/hospitals, we have found the best care at Samitivej Sukhumvit. The pediactric orthopedist (can't remember his name) is great with kids, knows what he's doing, and the shoes are made way better than the other places. Don't expect your insurance to cover it; paying out of pocket to his shoemaker for the shoes rather than through the hospital is much cheaper.

It is not close to Pattaya obviously, but seeing as we only have to go every 3 - 4 months, it's not bad.

How old is your baby? And why do you think she needs orthopedic shoes? My younger two are 21 months and are in "supportive" shoes until they reach age 2, when the specialist thinks the actual correction will begin. My older one (almost 4) started the correction around 2.5.

You can not buy orthophedic shoes. How could you? Based on what diagnosis, by whom?

As another poster said, Samitivej hospital has a good orthopedician. There is no booking, the waiting room is full of children with parents (40, 50 of them) and he calls one by one into his (almost open, just paravans) ordination. He works 2 or 3 days a week only, call to see when he is there.

Next to him, there are people who take his instructions and measures to make the shoes, all 1-stop shop. You can chose among many colors and price is 200B or so. Not even worth claiming from insurance.

In Pattaya, don know, there ought to be the same kind of thing at BPH.

So, thanx for the answer!

Actually we have been consulted a doctor (orthopaedist) when we went home and now is time to check her once again.

We bought her 2 pairs of shoes, at the same time when we were visiting the doctor. And now I see than the second one are going to be small for her. And I am worry, how i can do- wherther try to find the footwear in Thailand or just ask my friends to bring me them in Thaiand..

Maybe it sould be named as "supportive" but everywhere it is written "orthopaedic"...

BTW- they don't have an orthopaedist for kids in Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, only for adults..

The way this Samitivej doctor works is probably a common practice.

Unless there is something visibly wrong with the kid's feet and ankles, he will "prescribe" test shoes. They have softer soles and your kid will have to wear them 1 hour a day for 3-4 weeks. Then, you see the doctor again and he "reads" from the soles (how and where they had been eaten and worn out by walking) and then prescribe what you need, guys next to him take measures again, you chose colors and the shoes are there in 7 days.

Grandma told us that our daughter has one ankle a bit twisted and that's why we took her there.

After 1 month in test shoes, the doctor said - forget it, no problem, nothing is wrong, no need for any treatment.

2 years on, all ok. That is why I said orthopedic shoes should not be available for sale. What would have happened if we heeded grandma's illusion and bought something when there is no problem at all?

Thanx for your answers!!

We will try to get to Samitivej hospital! (Guess that's Basngkok's Samitivej, not from Siracha?)

Looked him up:

Dr. Chaithavat Ngarmukos

Samitivej Sukhumvit (not Siracha)

Dr. Chaithawat was recommended to us and we have been very happy with his conservative practice.
