Simple question -- if a US tourist visa is issued to a Thai national, how long can you wait before traveling to the US?

Thanks,

Generally, and I write this without having seen the actual visa, they will issue visas that must be used within 6 months, but it depends. For tourist visas they can opt to issue a ten year multiple entry visa in which case, its valid for ten years.

Hope this was helpful,

Just checking my now wife's passport. Her first two visas were short termers, valid for six months, and both indicated an "expiry date" after which they'd have been no longer valid.

Her 10-year visa has the same info, 10 years validity with a clearly stated "expiration date."

Ok, I have the answer: 90 days before expiration.

There is also something new: an "association" section that says "To travel with US citizen Mr. [Retiree]." Sigh .... if our plans change slightly, and I must go a week earlier, does this mean that I can't just pick her up at the airport? I.e. must we entter the country at the same time?

Now you have me curious, just where did you get that "90 days before exipration" statement?

I believe that is INCORRECT. If the visa says, for example, "expires on July 10,2009," I'd make a point of arriving on the 9th, or before that. "Expires" means just what it says!

Not quite sure what you're saying, but the expiration date is three months, less two days, after the issue date.

Anyway, according to Lawyer White (filling in for Lawyer Hart), we must indeed arrive together, or run the risk of her being sent back.
