Meteorological Dept warns of tropical storm \"Chanhom\"

BANGKOK, 4 May 2009 (NNT) - The Meteorological Department warns of heavy rain and gust in the southern provinces due to the tropical storm Chanhom in the South China Sea.

The Meteorological Department said the storm would cause heavy rain and strong winds in the South as the storm was expected to strengthen the western wind covering the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. In addition, a high pressure system from the South China Sea currently covering the Northeast would result in less rainfall there than other regions during these 1-2 days.

The department therefore warned residents in the South to exercise caution especially during thunderstorms from May 4-6.
