Many do. However if you are interested in helping out with a Womens Christian Mission in Phuket I could actually find some details for you.

There are many women that are active in oraniztions that do such things as you wish to do (I took a peak at your previous posts).

If you choose to live in one of the areas where there a number of expat ladies then you will find many opportunities to do it.

You can do al lot without a work permit, Many who do get a work permit do so to obtain a visa.

It is a bit of a grey area as far as needing a work permit.

Disagree with being a grey area. For volunteer work you need a work permit, it is one of the methods in which the government wants to have a hold on NGO's.

Fact is that many people don't have a WP for doing volunteer work and are getting away with it. But if soemone wants to make trouble he can report youand have you jailed, fined and deported. There is always a risk when you do volunteer work without a WP.

This came up down in Phuket after the tsunami as most foreigners "working" for NGOs or on their own and not being paid, did not have WPs. Don't know if any were deported but did create a stir amongst them.

And, according to reports, WPs cannot be issued to people here on "retirement" extensions of their Non-O visas. "Married" extensions, yes, Non-B, yes, not retired.

Iif you were working on a regular basis with an organization as a member of the staff that is when you would defintily need a work permit.

But occasionaly helping at an orphanage or something similar you would probably be safe.

Just read the Pattaya Mail and you will see articles all the time about this kind of thing being done. Even a charity bazaar where people were selling handcrafts and etc.

Even if someone is out to make trouble for you? The prospect of deportation and never being able to come back is a big deterrent.
