As a relative newcomer to this forum, and a believer in walking before you run, I've spent the last few months or so following the various posts, and sometimes trying to add to them if I felt I had something constructive to say. What I've most appreciated about this, is the diversity of response, the knowledge that I've gained, and the humour that I've witnessed. Sometimes, we are all prejudiced in our opinions and beliefs, but it very much makes it a healthy forum.

That is because not everyone agrees with you, Sir Burr.

The diversity is what makes the forum great. But it does escalate to a free for all, once the beer and egos start to take over.

I'm also a newbie and have to agree with pagallim's sentiments - particularly his last sentence re health of the forum. The ThaiVisa practice of vaporizing comments designed to damage another member, culture, or business is well warranted, and I find the moderators quite reasonable in this respect. Nope, I'm not politically correct - just want to see the forum regarded as an interesting and respected place - not as a snake pit.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately SB considers the moderation far too heavy handed. I disagree (not surprisingly :) ) and I can tell you that there are very few posts on the Phuket Forum that require edit or removal by the moderators. Thanks, and keep up your support for Thaivisa.

But I do find it sort of petty when moderators take swipes at members, and when responded to, they delete, leaving their swipe up.

I wouldn't say the moderating is "heavy handed" it's just that some (LIK I am not singling you out, I've seen it in others) seem to take the position as something a bit more important than it actually is.

Also, (and I will put myself in this category) sometimes we are a bit too negative, and that causes newbies not to want to continue on. That's a shame. We need more people, everyone has their perspective and should be entitled to state their opinion without getting blown up on post #1 (unless it is really ridiculous).

All with a "grain of salt" folks. HB

I'm not 'swiping' a member. I'm just commenting that there are all sorts of opinions about a well regulated forum.

No idea what you mean by "and when responded to, they delete, leaving their swipe up." I've never seen that practice ??

I've seen that happen often on another forum (a British one :) ) and no longer post on there. Personally I think the Mods do a pretty good job on here (crawl, crawl).

I thought discussion of moderation was strictly against the rules?

Or, does that mean negative comments only?

Correct, there endeth the discussion about moderation. Now I have my mod hat on, before I was wearing my member hat. So much for that, thanks for reminding me SB....

I'm sure dual role post in question was something like this "  dear xxxxxx, do please keep up" and that was with the member hat on :) I don't know if that's a swipe or not, but supposedly we as members are supposed to not flame or put down other members.

Now if the forum software would do as I recommended in the forum support desk and have relevant facts pinned at the top of multi page threads, we could be kept up to relevant facts of each thread.
