Lost Passbook...

Recommended Posts

I lost my passbook today around BKK and was wondering if anyone can do anything with it?. I dont have any money in the account. Is there any reason going through the hassle of a police report so the bank can issue me with a new one?.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

This happened to me once. Inform the bank immediately. They will freeze the account although no one will be able to access it without the correct signature. You will then have to make a report at your local police station. Then go back to the bank and they will issue you with a new passbook. No big deal.

The signature is easy to find at the back of the passbook using UV-light.

But I trust that the banks always ask for proof of ID, which so far has been the case, for example a Thai driving license or a passport.

Not always, I pulled a chunk of coin from my kasikorn account when I purchased my pick-up, the bundle of money was counted out and was sitting on the counter in front of me when I casually asked the teller if she wanted to see some ID to prove it was my account where the money was withdrawn from..........

If the account and low / no balance you can just let it go and the bank will close it eventually. Dormant (no activity for the last 12 months) and balance under 2,000 Bt (banks may have different policies) usually attracts a monthly charge which eventually eats up any remaining balance and then after a while at zero it is closed.

However if this was your main a/c with automated bill payments and all the rest, and it is a hassle to change everything to a new account number, then better to go through the police process and get it reissued.

Hi, I also lost my passbook.

Had to go to police, they did the paperwork stuff, and asked me 20 bahts ! I didn't refuse. Is it normal?

I filed a report for a stolen spare tire a couple years ago here in Bangkok...went to my local police station to file the report needed for the insurance claim....I didn't get charged anything for the police report.
