This morning, I submitted my application for a non-imm B to Kuala Lumpur embassy, MY. I pick up tomorrow. I tried to push for a multiple entry 12 month but because I had only a work permit application receipt (along with a dozen other pieces of information in Thai - letter, company taxes etc..) and no an actual work permit - so this was declined - so its just a single entry 3 month I paid for.

I'm thinking of going back the UK today for a week or two instead of my original plan of returning to Thailand in 2 days. I was wondering does the 3 month kick in from today/tomorrow or does it kick in when I go through Thailand immigration in a week or two?

If I remember correctly, the lawyer & employer (small 4m baht company) told me that when I get back to Thailand I give them my passport with the non-imm B and then they can finalise the work permit for 3 months initially I believe. Other question (yes perhaps should be asking them but Im indirect and employer asleep - and I want to book tixs to uk now lol) if I don't go back Thailand for a week or two will it affect the work permit application receipt or anything they done so far? (as I said told them I'd return in 2 days originally - not committed to any start date - employer okay)

There are two items.

1. You have 90 days from visa issue to enter Thailand.

2. Upon entry to Thailand you will receive a 90 day permitted to stay stamp from that (entry) date.

It should say on the Visa a date on which you have to enter before, just above the Remarks area, next to the Passport number

1. The actual visa should be valid for 90 days from the date it was placed in your passport.

2. You will get a 90 day 'permission to stay' stamp from immigration upon entering Thailand with a valid Non-Immigrant "B" visa.

3. Your work permit should already be arranged by the time you get back, just need to show Labour Department your "B" visa, the work permit may be valid for anywhere from 90 days to 1 year.

4. If you get a 1 year work permit, you head on over to immigration and get a 1 year 'extension of stay' based on working, assuming your company has all the correct paperwork.
